I discovered this villa through a local Italian friend in the Napa Valley. His sister is resident to the Cortona area . As a retired winemaker, I wanted to celebrate my 80th birthday in Tuscany/Umbria with family and friends. The villa is located high on a hillside with sweeping views of lake Trasimeno and the beautiful countryside. If you are into wine and food, without the clutter of the typical tourists spots , this should be your destination for a large party of family and friends. Although I did not meet Cecilia Righini, her family owns the estate as a family retreat. Cecilia is one of five Righini children and a wedding planner in Florence. Planning a special family wedding? Caprara is the place. Comfortable space in all rooms, large well equipped kitchen, huge dining room (our largest dinner was for 24), and
a wonderful house chef Antonella who you should use regularly during your visit. Days visits to all of the hill villages of Siena, Multapachino, Maltichino, Overito, Assisi , and Cortona a mere 20 minutes from the villa, are a must see . You are in the in the interior of Tuscan/Umbrian farm and wine country. The home of Chianti and Brunello. The area has a number of local restaurant serving wonderful, fresh food. Don't miss Taverna Gusippe in Siena. I could easily live in Cortona, my favorite of all the villages. Thank you Cecilia for a delightful celebration in a wonderful part of the world, and this comes from a Napa Valley winemaker who live is the Garden of Eden. Five plus stars.
Beautiful villa with incredible view on the border of Umbria and Tuscany
We spent an amazing week here, taking day trips to parts of Umbria (Assisi and Perugia) as well as Tuscany (Siena, Cortona, Montepulciano), while trying our best to also spend enough time in the beautiful villa. View is breathtaking. Villa itself is extremely comfortable with great facilities--there were 12 adults and 5 kids in our group, plenty of space for everybody. The villa management and service staff are also top notch, always ready to help us via WhatsApp. The professional chef service they offer is well worth the money--she made us meals better than what we had outside. We catered in 2 nights, and cooked/ate out the rest of the week. We visited in April, when it is a bit colder but less crowded. Can't wait to return!
Beautiful Villa with breathtaking views!
We had our daughter’s wedding here, and it is the perfect setting for a wedding! We had 30 guests, but the property could accommodate close to 100 people.
Great house for up to 6 couples for Tuscany and Umbria wine tasting adventure. Owner has chefs for cooking tutorials and experiences too.
Amazing villa with fabulous views!
We stayed in the villa for 3 nights and everything was perfect. The photos don’t do it justice - it’s very beautiful and the views overlooking the lake are incredible! We were lucky with the weather (considering that it was late September) so we spent most of the time lounging around by the pool.
Debra was super helpful and nothing was too much for her. She arranged us a chef for a pizza night and then birthday dinner the following night. She also organized a wine tour & tasting which we all thoroughly enjoyed.
Our family of 13 had a fantastic time while staying at La Caprara! There was plenty of room for all of us to be together comfortably and yet spaces to have quiet moments. And, the view! We found ourselves looking out over the hill to Lake Trasimeno from morning till night. We had a pink sky just about every evening and have so many photos of the spectacular vista.
We had dinner outside under the wistaria canopy every night but one. ( showers that evening) We celebrated a special anniversary with a delicious catered dinner served by Debora, the amazing hospitality manager, with 3 chefs in the kitchen. The pizza evening was also fun and delicious.
The villa is within driving distance to many towns including Siena, Montelpuciano, Gubbio, Assisi and several small towns around the lake. We went to Florence via the train. We were always happy to return to the beauty of the villa each evening. The memories we made here will always bring us smiles.
Upon arrival you will be required to have 500 euro security, 200 euro for the final cleaning and know that firewood for the oven is 30 euro. Also, you are allowed 250kw of electricity for the week, not nearly enough if you need to run the air conditioners each evening, as we did during the heat of August. The overage charge is 0.50euro/kw. Also, running the washer and dryer require lots of power.
Absolute Best!! A Room With A View Experience!!
After an exhaustive search, we booked this villa a year in advance; We were not disappointed! Very tasteful and comfortable accommodations for everyone. Even those with discerning taste will find this villa to be an absolute gem.
Its true what others have mentioned in their reviews... with such a large group, everyone was comfortable, and thoroughly enjoyed their stay. Very private and quiet.
The villa is certainly designed for large group entertaining and relaxation. There was a seat for everyone at the large dining room table where we would all eat our meals together, laugh and enjoy the spirit of our trip.
We also took advantage baking pizzas in the outdoor oven - - proved to be a super fun evening spent around the large adjacent outside table.
The pool was also a wonderful treat. Ample in size, and a perfect in temperature after returning from a warm nearby village tour.
Everyday, I would ponder how nice it would of been to meet the owners in person... to thank them for offering such a beautiful villa to share with all of us.
The only item to really watch out for...they do offer 250KW of free electricity. So, even with conservation by limiting the AC units, keeping the lights off, etc. if you are traveling with a large group, expect you will go way over necessitating the additional charge at the end of your stay. Not a big deal, but something to budget when tallying costs within your group.
We would certainly stay here again and not hesitate to recommend it.
