Beautiful views, needs updating. Ants everywhere.
Ants everywhere. Because of the skinny spiral staircase we had to leave our luggage on the first floor we left with ants in our cloths/luggage. Door doesn’t open without scratching across the floor. I actually pulled a back muscle trying to left the door to open it to reduce floor damage.
I will say the views were quite beautiful.
Tiny Cliffside Diamond in the Rough
First of all, the views from Villa July are absolutely stunning. Waking up here was extremely inspiring. It's hard to imagine a better view of the Faraglioni than from this tiny terrace overlooking Marina Piccola. Our stay at Villa July was overall a fine experience -- the hosts we met were helpful and kind. However there were some limitations people should be aware of. It is definitely a bit of a walk from the main gates (we only had smaller, carry on luggage so it was doable, but it is a walk down a long dirt path) not that difficult though as long as you are traveling light. For that reason, I would recommend bringing groceries (and wine) with you, because once you arrive, you are very tucked away on this cliffside abode. Once you are there, it's a bit discouraging to go into town for the night, even though it's only about a 15-20 minute walk to the center. Also make sure to bring plenty of BUG SPRAY and citronella with you! The mosquitos were terrible (early September) and there were ants (even in one of the beds unfortunately) and we believe some type of rodent that was rummaging around in the bushes next to us. Was not thrilled that it cost extra to have internet access as well as air conditioning (for only a 2.5 day stay.) The shower in the all-in-one bathroom was very cramped (none of us ended up using it and instead showered at the beach club in Marina Piccola) but everything was clean and I'm sure it would work fine if there for longer stays. My friends felt it was a few steps above glamping -- which can be fine and lovely, depending on how you like to travel. With a few key updates (and perhaps some pest control!) this would truly be a gem of a tiny house and great, quiet and relaxed place to stay on Capri on a budget.
I really loved the location of the home. The views are to die for. The only negatives are the stairs (very tight fit). We had to leave our suitcases downstairs as the stairs are too narrow to safely bring bags up there. Also the shower is in the roof of the entire bathroom. So when you shower the sink, bidet and toilet are getting wet. When you need to use the bathroom later, you’re walking on a wet floor. I didn’t mind it so much because the views made up for the inconvenience. There are lots of towels and they’re nice ones. The owner even supplies a couple beach towels which was nice. AC is cold and cools the entire house when you leave the master bedroom door open. And WIFI is great!
