Had a lovely time here. We stayed just over a week and spent the time relaxing on the porch that faces the ocean, swimming in the pool, searching for shells and fishing. Giselle and Carlos met us at the house and walked us through everything we needed to know (even though we didn’t get there until late!). We rented a van so we could do some exploring and visited ruins, cenotes and the beautiful yellow city of Izamal. Telchac Puerto is a charming town with friendly people and a few good restaurants. We went in to Merida to get most of our groceries but many of the day to day things we needed were readily available right in town. This area is not too touristy, so we never felt crowded on the beach. Good idea to brush up on your Spanish if it isn’t your primary language because you will mostly be interacting with people who speak minimal English in the stores and restaurants. We ate several meals at Sea Friends and really enjoyed their ceviche, guacamole and coconut shrimp. Also, their wait staff were warm and friendly.
After hearing that my husband and son are avid fishermen, Giselle and Carlos worked to find a local fishing guide and they were able to go on two half-day fishing excursions when we were there for a great price.
We had an absolutely lovely time. If I had it to do over I would probably stay a day or two closer to Mérida because it was a good 2.5 hour drive (one way) to the bigger cenotes and ruins. But, if you’re looking for a laid back beach house and need a place to unwind, this is it.
Thanks so much for your hospitality and attention, Giselle and Carlos! ❤️
