We purchased the land after visiting Buena Vista in 2011. We knew this was a place we wanted to come back to many times. It is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy the outdoors. It is so beautiful in Buena Vista and the people are very friendly.
We love to start our day at the bakery with a bear claw then head across the street to our favorite coffee shop. Our favorite activity is riding our road bikes all over the area and up to the top of Cottonwood and Independence Passes. In the evenings we explore the area on our motorcycle.
One of the most beautiful sites is Cottonwood Lake located off CR306 heading towards Mt. Princeton. Watch for the sign and turn to the left on CR344. It is approximately 3-4 miles up the gravel road. Google it for a sneak preview of its beauty! We are just beginning to explore the trails in 168,000 acre Collegiate Peak Wilderness which borders the mountain housing development our cabin is located in.
Our adults sons love to visit the cabin and take on whitewater rafting, ATV riding, off-road jeep adventures, fishing, zip lining and hunting in the Fall. Buena Vista is just under 8000 feet elevation.
Our cabin is at approximately 8500 feet, keeping us close to town but high enough to enjoy the tall ponderosa pines and beautiful mountain views. From the east side of the house, you will see a special large ponderosa pine that grew in a crack in large boulder and split in two. That was the selling point of the property! You will see it as you enter the house from the garage at the beginning of your stay at Colyer Kickn' Back Cabin.
