La roccaforte di Fortress Cabin prende il nome dal fulcro della sua vista che guarda le scogliere della fortezza lungo il bordo orientale del Palo Duro Canyon State Park, un sei miglia protette di scogliere che si affacciano sul Grand Canyon del Texas. L'aspetto bluff è allo stesso modo in cui lo hanno visto i primi texani: incontaminato. I ripidi margini delle scogliere della fortezza sono costituiti da strati luminosi e fasciati di rocce arancioni, rosse, marroni, gialle e bianche che rappresentano quattro periodi geologici. In aggiunta alla grandezza scenografica delle scogliere sono numerosi pinnacoli, colline e mesas. Questa cabina moderna ma rustica con due camere da letto e due bagni è immacolata e completamente arredata. È dotato di camino a legna, vasca idromassaggio, patio coperto esposto a est con altalene della veranda e barbecue. La cucina completamente attrezzata offre tutto il necessario per farti sentire a casa. Lenzuola e asciugamani puliti sono forniti per il vostro comfort insieme a coperte extra per notti accoglienti. Spectacular View!

We had a wonderful time (3 nights) at the Fortress cabin. The view is spectacular and we enjoyed the privacy of the property. The house had most everything we needed (no foil, plastic wrap, etc if you plan on cooking…but no big deal). The bed is very comfortable. They provided coffee pods for the keurig! We had a full day of nonstop rain and high winds so we were at the house all day and still enjoyed the view and the comfort of the house. Sad Monkey Mercantile is just down the road so we popped in for great sandwiches and iced coffee (and shopping). We were able to see the eclipse from the bottom of the canyon…not quite a full eclipse but still very cool to see! We hope to be back to Dove’s Rest this Fall for a few days.

Doves Rest Cabin-Fortress On the Rim

Location was outstanding. The view was magnificent. The house is just about 50 feet from the rim of the canyon and the view is absolutely incredible. As far as the house is concerned, I have to tell you I have been renting locations for special occasions for over 30 years and this property was the very best equipped in every area and also the cleanest. If I could give it a 10 start for all categories I would. If you're looking for a tremendously great place, for a relaxing stay, rent the Fortress property, you will not regret your decision. My wife and I intent to rent the same location for our anniversary in May. The owners were extremely easy to deal with and were responsive to every need.

Jeff Means is the founder and manager of Doves Rest Cabins. He’s an experienced business professional with a 30+ year career in the hospitality & tourism industry. He has overseen countless event executions and destination/resort marketing efforts. He has personally led groups to over 50-countries and worked closely with resorts and hotels to enhance the guests stay and overall experience. He has traveled to every continent except Antarctica, and almost every state/province in the U.S., Mexico and Canada. During his career he has been to many interesting places such as, the Sahara Desert, Amazon River, Great Barrier Reef, Moscow, Marrakesh, Transylvania, Kenai Peninsula, and the Alps from every country, plus most of the Caribbean Islands. Jeff’s sister lives in New Zealand who he visits occasionally. Interestingly, she has several successful vacation home rentals projects in New Zealand, Australia and Argentina!

Jeff is also an author and accomplished writer. His extensive travels have given him a unique view about the world and the cultures in which we live. His curiosity about world and human origins led him to write his debut novel, Entity of Origin. Jeff was born and raised in Northern California but has called Texas home since 1989.

Palo Duro Canyon State Park with it's Technicolor walls make for high-desert scenery more commonly seen in southern Utah. It offers more than 30-miles of hiking, mountain-biking and equestrian trails and an additional 1,500 acres set aside for horseback riding. You can bring your own horses so don’t hesitate to ask us about local boarding. Mountain bikers can experience the best single track in Texas and will enjoy the well maintained five trail heads networking for some 26-miles throughout the canyon ranging from "mild" to "wild" in technical ability - dirt, rocks, river rock, sand, wash-outs, switchbacks, drop-offs and climbs with alternative trail accesses throughout.

During the summer, enjoy a performance of the outdoor musical drama TEXAS. The play, nearing a half-century in its on-going production runs Tuesdays through Sundays, June through August, at the 1,700 seat Pioneer Amphitheater. Watch the stories, struggles and triumphs of early settlers. The family-friendly show has singing, dancing, fireworks and lots of Texas humor.
