A lovely villa which provided us with a wonderful family holiday
We spent a lovely week at Villa Palombara (1st - 8th July) with our family (seven adults and four children). The villa is set in spacious grounds with far reaching views and gorgeous sunsets. The property is extremely well equipped for sports enthusiasts - there is a magnificent floodlit tennis court, 7 or 8 bikes, table tennis table, basketball net, cricket set (and plenty of flat garden in which to play), football nets, toys for the pool.
There are two covered areas, one of which is the outside eating area and the other serves as shaded outside lounge. The pool is a good size with a generous shallow end. It was plenty warm enough for us (no heating required)
Mari Lou and her husband look after the property very well and are very obliging. They stop in the owners' villa next door.
Inside there are two attractive bedrooms. The third double bedroom downstairs is a bit poky. The children's bedroom has two separate bunk beds and accommodated our four grandchildren. There is a fifth bedroom in which our adult single daughter slept. It has a cabin bed and would not really work as a double room.
There is a large lounge which we did not make much use of as the weather meant we spent all our time outside.
The kitchen is well equipped (a cafetiere would be handy )
There is a small village a couple of kilometres away where a small shop sells the basic stuff. Todi is about a 10/15 minute drive. It is a beautiful hill town. Within easy reach are a clutch of Italian hill towns Orvieto, Perugia, Assisi, Montefalco which are all worthy of a day or half day excursion.
The property sells itself on the basis of its grounds and outside facilities. It is not a classic Tuscan villa and lacks a bit of character inside. Don't let that put you off however (we are seriously considering a return visit next year)
Weekend at Palombara
My wife and I had a fantastic weekend staying at Palombara. We want to go back in the summer with our extended family.
We were greeted with a lovely meal cooked by Marilou, the house keeper and a nice bottle of wine that we drank on the terrace looking at the sunset behind the lovely Umbrian hills. In the morning, it was a very short cycle ride to the local village for a coffee and a bit of food shopping. We spent some time in the pool but definitively want to come back with the family to try the tennis court and adventure further with the bikes we found in the shed. The house is about a 15 minutes' drive from a wonderful medieval town called Todi. We went there one evening for a pizza and an ice cream on the piazza, and that was great. Definitively going back soon.
