Great home in Nauvoo for a family! **BYO shampoo, conditioner, body wash**
We stayed at the Hopper House a few weeks ago, during the last week of the pageants, and we would definitely stay here again. Positives--
1) The house is so cute, has a backyard for kids to run around in, and is right off of Mulholland street where a lot of the souvenir shops and places to eat are located. The house is just a few blocks from the temple as well!
2) We have a family of two parents and 5 kids ages 13 down to 4 and the house worked great for us. My husband and I had a room to ourselves with a queen bed, two of our boys (9 and 7) shared the other bedroom with the queen, each of our older children took one of the fold out couches (both queen beds) and my 4 year old actually slept in the recliner. We all had space!
3) The air conditioning works amazingly well which is hard to find in Nauvoo!
4) The WiFi works amazingly well which is ALSO hard to find in Nauvoo!
5) We came prepared with dishwashing soap and laundry soap, and extra toilet paper, but there was plenty for us there already and didn't have to use what we had brought!
The three reasons I gave it four stars instead of 5 were (pretty minor)
1) We let the manager know early on that we would appreciate a full length broom (they only had 2 small sweeper brushes) and they said they would get that to us, but we never received one.
2) Parts of the house were not as clean as we would have hoped. There were some wrappers from food that we found under beds and under the couches that we found when we pulled out the hide-a-beds. The downstairs bathroom was very clean, but the playroom down there is a bit unfinished so I had to tell my little kids to not go down there without an older person to make sure they were safe.
3) We were happy that we brought shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, because there was only bar soap and hand soap in the house.
Overall, a WONDERFUL place to stay in Nauvoo! It's so nice to spread out, not worry about bothering neighbors in a hotel or condos when the kids are loud, and so great to have working AC and WiFi!
Good rate, good property
This home worked well for the two small families we had staying there. Sharing a bathroom with two families can be a little challenging but would be just fine for one family. The property is older but the kitchen has been updated. One bedroom smelled a little like cigarette smoke but it might have been just musty. The rate on the property is good for the area and there is plenty of room. We would definitely choose to rent the property again. The owner and his co-workers were helpful and quick to respond to our questions or needs and we got our security deposit refunded in a timely fashion.
Darling home, but some things need updating
The Hopper House is a darling little home, with a fantastic location in Nauvoo. It has a nice little yard with a picnic table as well as great A/C for those hot and sticky summer days. It was clean when we arrived and the kitchen was stocked with all the basics we needed. However, there are a few things about the home that could use improvements -- the basement wasn't really useable for guests to stay (we couldn't convince anyone to sleep down there) and there are a few parts of the house that would benefit from being updated. There were plenty of towels (thank you!) but not enough top and bottom sheets to put on the couch beds. We would love to stay there again if a few of these small improvements were made!
Well-stocked with towels and bedding. Plenty of kitchen utensils and appliances. Only a few blocks from historical sites. So nice to be able to wash our clothes so we didn't have to pack so many. Air conditioned - wonderful break from the heat! Comfortable fit for 10 of us. We brought our own cots, which turned out to be a good thing since the ones there were in rough shape. Other than that, no complaints. Loved it!
Family trip to Nauvoo
I rented this house for a 4 night stay in Nauvoo with my wife, daughter and 3 grandkids ages 22 months, 3 and 5. It was a great place to stay, close to all the sites in Nauvoo, large enough for all six of us and good air conditioning, which was important because we were there during a record setting heat wave at the end of May.
The house had everything we needed for our stay, the only complaint was the kitchen knives could have been sharper. The wood work in the house and hardware on the doors are like my grandma's house, so calling it grandma's cottage was a good fit for me.
Fun little place to stay right in Nauvoo
This is a cute little home right in Nauvoo. It is close to a small general store, bakery, and fun gift shops on the Main street in town. Close to the Nauvoo temple and not far from all the sites that you are going to love to see. Pots and pans, blender, general kitchen stuff is included. The couch that made out to a bed was ok, my daughter and I slept on in so the Grandmas with us could have the comfy beds. We had a little issue due to the manager that is in town had just barely switched. As soon as we notified them of the issue it was taken care of. We thought it could use a little more spare bedding (a few of the grandmas were cool in our April visit, and we filled all the beds and the 2 couch beds.) It was a fun place to see church history and make fun memories. Close enough to the sites to feel like we could run back to the house for lunch, but our time there was so short that we took it with us to the sites to save time. We would have liked a toaster and maybe a little more in the kitchen. As far as food goes there is a salt canister and a pepper shaker. Mentioned to the new local manager that maybe no stick spray, press and seal or tinfoil at least would be nice. We bought a lot of frozen, pre-made things in Keokuk (about 20 min away) and then warmed them in the microwave or oven.
Thank you for your feedback we appreciate it very much. We are very glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will come again!
Nauvoo è una città storica stabilito dai mormoni nel 1839. E crebbe fino a diventare la più grande città dell'Illinois, insieme a Chicago, con una popolazione di 15.000 - 20.000 persone.
