My spouse and I loved our long weekend getaway to this cozy and conveniently located lake cottage. Since we were there in off-season, we felt almost secluded — no neighbors were around and at most we saw two fishing boat a day. But still we got to enjoy the glorious views of the lake, the fall colors, and the sunsets. And the lake’s animal life was abundant — including herons, cormorants, gulls, geese, ducks and a solitary mink all making visits!
The house itself is cozy and sweet. It was perfect for the two of us — enough room to relax inside and out when the weather allowed, a well-stocked kitchen to make a few meals ourselves, a comfortable bed, and all the conveniences of home.
The location is also excellent. Lakewood is a pretty little village with an excellent Italian restaurant, Stella, which I highly recommend. (And for the runners out there, I did a scenic 4-mile run straight from the cottage through Lakewood, and could easily have extended it.) We were just a few more minutes from Jamestown and its conveniences and attractions, including the excellent National Comedy Center, where we spent a delightful 3 hours on a rainy morning. Also close by are Panama Scenic Rocks (highly recommended short and scenic hike!) and the Chautauqua Institute, the grounds of which we loved exploring even though nothing was on. Bemus Point is nearby as well, and even the towns at the other end of the lake are not far. We also made a day trip to Erie, PA, and Presque Isle for more hiking along the Erie shore.
The hosts were everything you want from experienced VRBO hosts. Mary Beth left a goody basket for us full of snacks; getting to and into the house was a breeze; directions for everything in the house were clear; the house was immaculate; and when we couldn’t figure out how to get the heater going (it was the pilot light! It works!), her husband called and walked us through the process.
In short, everything is was as expected or above and beyond, and we had a fabulous stay! Would stay here again!
