Great place to stay
We really enjoyed our time at the lake. It was a drive to most major things to do but the tranquility of the house was serene. The neighbors were great. They even watched our dog for a few hours. We also enjoyed fishing on the lake. We will definitely recommend. The Vecchio’s 8/19
Tranquility on the water
Being right on the lake was fantastic! Getting up each morning with the view of the lake was so calming. We would sit out on the deck with our coffee and breakfast to begin each day. We loved fishing off the dock any time we wanted, and catching large bass. Swimming in the warm, clean water was delightful. Sitting on the dock in a chair with a book was fabulous too. There was enough area in the back yard to play bean hole and for the dog to play. We picked a lot of yummy blueberries near the fence which we made pancakes with.
The house was cozy. There were a few issues with the electrical overload and extension cords. The dryer needs to be replaced because it is old and it takes forever to dry clothes. There is no large table to eat or play games indoors. A large table should be added to the downstairs for rainy days.
The bedroom situation was a little inconvenient. There is no access to the third bedroom (basement) from the main house. You need to go outdoors and go in through the backyard.
The living room seating only accommodates 4 people, with 2 pairs of people sharing two over-sized recliners. Not great for watching tv for the entire group.
The location was great for venturing out and exploring the surrounding attractions. We spent a day at Hampton Beach which was 45 minutes away, York, Maine, the White Mountains and Lake Region.
The property listing pictures need to be updated. It is obvious they are not current.
We had a marvelous vacation staying at this lake house. We already miss the tranquility and fun of being right on the water. We have made a lot of great memories from this place.
Quaint Stay on Private Lake
We enjoyed our stay, and appreciated the fact that there was limited water traffic... we were a little disappointed at the proximity of the property to a heavily used road - there was quite a bit of traffic noise during the commuting hours. Great place if you don't mind traffic noise, though!
Thank you for your review. Just to set the record straight, the road is two lanes (one each way) and the speed limit is 35MPH.
Great Lake, house needs deep and thorough cleaning.
My husband and I packed up our 4 children and our lab for our first family vacation at this cottage. We were so excited to see where we would be living for the next week! The scenery was beautiful. We walked in and as I did a quick walk through I noticed right off the bat the house didn’t look very clean. I had to use the bathroom after the long ride, I notice the bathroom smelled like urine. I dried my hands after washing them and the hand towel was damp. I felt the other clean towels and they were all damp as well. I had to get dinner started for very hungry kids who have been sitting in a car for 3 hours. The counter was sticky with crumbs and dried tomato juice. I figured, not a big deal I will just wipe down the counter. Then I look in the fridge. It was filthy inside. Food particles and spills all over the shelves. The shower was left with an old used face cloth sitting on top of 2 used bars of soap. I had to put a bag over my hand myself and get rid of it. So obviously the shower was not cleaned either. A few days after we got there we went to do laundry. There were 2 large comforters shoved into a small very old dryer. They were still damp. I don’t think the sheets were washed before we got there. There were no extra sets anywhere to change them out. Luckily I brought my own. The deck furniture was falling apart, there was a glass panel missing from one of the bedroom doors, trim falling off the ceiling in the kitchen, and a thick layer of dust on almost every surface. Even the coffee maker was dusty. Kids toys rolled under the beds where it looked like it hasn’t been cleaned under there in years. At night, the front room filled with flies by the slider. Dozens of them. The spot underneath the deck had large dead bugs clung to the foundation. Nothing looked kept up. Found some Cigarette butts in the yard. The description of the house said that Hampton beach was only 20 minutes away! This is misleading. The drive was 45 minutes, and we did not hit any traffic. The state of the house was poor but we didn’t let it ruin our time. To be fair, we expressed our concerns of the cleanliness to the owner and he did refund the cleaning fee. The fishing was great, neighbors were friendly. Overall, not a good place to bring little ones. The concrete slab to get into the water was sharp and not ideal. The younger kids didn’t do much swimming for that reason. The house could be a very cute place if someone actually cleaned it and took care of it.
We are disappointed that the level of cleanliness did not meet your expectations. We have been using the same cleaner for two seasons now. They state that when they left the house, it was clean, all the bedding and towels had been cleaned. I am at a loss to explain how the house could be in the shape you describe.
