A bit of a disappointment
Stayed with 2 friends for a wine tourism trip in the region. Drawn to the Casina by the location and the charm. Location was good, just outside the city of Montepulciano with a short walk up the hill to the town. Disappointing for 3 reasons; First the quality of the furnishings bedding and towels were not at the standard I expected at this price point. Second the access to the upstairs is via a rickety spiral staircase that was challenging. Third heating was an extra charge which was not disclosed until after I booked. We had cold nights and didn’t feel that we could turn on the heat. My assumption is that heat be included in the price when I rent.
Thank you Ben for sharing your personal point of view and taking the time to speak about the convenient location and the short walk right into town. I think as per all the five star reviews everyone agrees those views and convenience are unparalleled but I would like to address some of your Less happy comments as well. Please accept my apologies, I always hesitate to do a reply on those as I don’t wish to come off as defensive and take everyone’s feedback to heart to improve things. I‘M quite shocked I didn’t hear anything from you and really certainly wish you would have sent me any questions or concerns for instance about heating? I don’t wish anything but for my guests to be happy and comfortable and always offer a solution to any ask and would have gladly clarified on this subject if needed, or the staircase during your stay? The upstairs area is also accessible from another door outside but I think you meant inside? I think it’s important to note, that unlike any other host, I send my guests and extensive PDF with tons of useful info three months before arrival so anything can be discussed prior. . You were not charged anything extra as you know and probably wouldn’t have been, because sometimes it’s nominal and not worth the trouble. Since your reservation was made during the summer still in the email I explain that I was considering for the first time renting it also during colder months and that I didn’t want to increase the price and considered it quite unfair to charge a flat high rate for heating when this absolutely just depends on each guest and the temp they prefer..... Perhaps I should instead do so, to make things easier for me but please know that this approach was to keep Your best interest in mind not mine. I also took into Consideration that it’s Tuscany- one day is super hot the next Gray? And that in the past, some people (this includes me every year, for instance...) are fine just with the fireplace and the extra blankets which are all over the house. Now this brings me to the final point about Furnishings and towels, etc. It’s a predicament how to answer this one as it is rather subjective and difficult to judge I believe. How to accommodate everyone’s taste? I simply will have to go with the fact that overall I have not had anyone negatively commenting on this but I’m sorry to hear these did not meet your expectations and I do feel however that you still had a good time despite all of these nuisances. Safe travels and all the best
We had 4 couples staying at the villa. We walked everyday across the street to town. It was so easy! Our views were amazing over the vineyards. The only thing I could say is taxi's to cooking class or vineyards should be arranged ahead of time. We would stay here again, thanks!
Grazie tanto! I appreciate you mentioning how close and conveniently walking distance it truly is to everything because it’s hard for people to believe such views can be found in a city unless it’s in a very tiny space in a larger bldg like most places and city apartments in Italy offer and this is actually a separate house with its own private terraces and views which is a rare combination to find anywhere close to town. And yes, vineyards are close by too but taxi or other transportation arrangements can and ought to be made if you don’t rent a car (highly recommended)to drive thru those gorgeous Tuscan hills.
It was lovely having you as my guests and I would welcome you back anytime please do return one day!:)
Beautiful apartment with amazing views!
We loved staying in Erika’s beautiful apartment. It was such a great location, just outside the walls of the village and a short walk to the Porta Farine for access. We sure did get our exercise! Big hills to climb. It is a “hill town!” The apartment is lovely with everything we needed for a relaxing visit. The terrace was our favorite place to sit and enjoy the view with our glasses of vino nobile. We had perfect weather with wonderful cool breezes at night. We cooked in one evening and had everything we needed for our Amatriciana and salad. We were with another couple and had so much fun exploring the region. So nice to have our parking spot right in front! We did take a tour of the Poliziano winery as Erika suggested and loved it! Can’t wait to return! Can’t get enough of Italy! Thank you, Erika, for your easy instructions and excellent communication!
Grazie mille for this wonderful and very descriptive review. I am so happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and took full advantage of the convenient location and those VIEWS. Vino nobile on the terraces with the vineyards and olive groves in front of you, just my kind of afternoon or evening too. I am also very glad you took the opportunity to visit Poliziano and follow some of the recommendations from my PDF. You were fantastic guests and I do hope to be able to host you again some day!
Until then- ALL THE BEST :)
My sister and I stayed for an extended period of time in Erika’s Casina and enjoyed every moment. The location is ideal, within steps of charming Montepulciano and close to shops, restaurants and other hilltop villages. The Casina is comfortable, well equipped and has a parking spot - a rarity in Montepulciano. The view is magnificent! Erika is a wonderful host and I am looking forward to returning to her beautiful property someday.
You and your wonderful family and friends where an absolute delight and made this by far one of the best hosting experiences. You are welcome anytime and I’m so happy you were able to share your experience with so many others because it is one thing for me as an owner to think that I have such great location and views and another entirely when my guests all agree that this isn’t a marketing gimmick but the real deal! I consider myself extremely lucky to have found this spot so many years ago that only keeps improving. Please do us the honor of seeing you around in Montepulciano again in the not so far future. All the best

Casa Pelligrino Review
This is a wonderful property! Amazing views, close to town, a true Tuscan experience. Montepulciano has many things to do and see. You can easily walk to everything. We truly enjoyed our time here. The owner is very easy to work with and very responsive to any questions - she even had a bottle of wine waiting for us upon our arrival. If you are looking for a perfect place in Tuscany, this is it!
GraZie mille! It was a pleasure hosting you and your family and friends and I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed everything about your stay, especially those views and how close everything is. Please come back again and safe travels! Erika :)
Casa di Pellegrino
Beautiful scenes and a little chilly
Grazie Mille!! I’m so sorry sometimes the weather just doesn’t cooperate:( but I hear you had a great time nonetheless on those gorgeous terraces!!:) (you saw the extra blankets we have for such days) and that the heating we turned on for you as an exception made for a cozy stay in the end. All the best on your future travels still and until next time!
