Very relaxing week in Grado
We selected Grado for a short-notice holiday in April 2017. We were limited to one week and chose this apartment.
The landlord and his girlfriend met us in the carpark to show us the flat and to give us the keys. They were both very friendly and helpful and also gave us recommendations where we could eat good fish in Grado.
The one-room apartment is situated behind a large public carpark which makes unpacking and packing the car easy. Out of the window across the carpark is part of the Grado harbour between two of the many islands.
The apartment was very clean when handed over to us when we arrived and is completely equipped with everything from a TV (unused by us) to a corkscrew. The only real negatives we would say are the terrible beds one a fold-out sofa (-1*) and no wifi availability which is a must today. All ok for 2 people but no more.
Approximately 50m or 1 minute away is a well-stocked supermarket and a very good restaurant and pizzeria named Delfino Blu both in the Viale J F Kennedy. The owner or “Mama” of the Delfino Blu is a typical Italian Mama (in the best positive sense) comes from Apulia (Puglia) where we go on holiday almost every year and she and her husband serve excellent food (both pizza and other dishes) and wines and Mama’s special loves her dolce which she evidently makes herself (with love).
The old Grado beach promenade leading to the old town of Grado is about 150 meters away and an evening walk in the setting sun into Grado town to drink a coffee or espresso and / or a cocktail in the old town was something we liked to do.
Grado itself although a nice old town is full of tourists (Austrians and Germans prevail) and is for our taste to “touristy”. However there are excellent restaurants and bars and some good shops (a lot of tourist plastic beach bucket and straw-hat shops too) and I assume a decent nightlife (not our thing).
Around Grado there are two recommended places to visit which are easily accessable, Palmanova (incredible) and Aquileia (extremely interesting).
All said a very relaxing week both the apartment and the landlord are recommended as well as the excellent fish restaurants. (Particularly the Zero Miglia which I read about in the Gambero Rosso "Osteria Italia" book which I can absolutely recommend for anyone traveling to Italy who wants to savour the REAL Italian food)
We may visit Grado again.
