IThe Baths of Agrippa (Thermae Agrippae) were a structure of ancient Rome, built by Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa, the first of the great thermae constructed in the city. In their first form, constructed at the same time as the Pantheon and on axis with it, as a balaneion (βαλανεῖον), they were apparently a hot-air bath with a cold plunge, not unlike a sauna. With the completion of the Aqua Virgo, the aqueduct completed by Agrippa in 19 BC, the baths were supplied with water and became regular thermae, with a large ornamental pool (Stagnum Agrippae) attached. Agrippa furnished his baths with decorations that may have been executed in glazed tiles and with works of art: the Apoxyomenos of Lysippus stood outside. He left the baths to the citizens of Rome at his death, 12 BC.

The Baths of Agrippa were damaged by fire in AD 80 (Cassius Dio, lxvi.24), but were restored and enlarged; they were thronged in the times of Martial, and enlarged under Hadrian and later emperors. Sidonius Apollonaris mentions that the Baths of Agrippa were still being used in the fifth century.

In the seventh century the structure (no longer in use after the Ostrogoths cut off the Roman aqueducts in the 530s) was being mined for its building materials, but much of the Baths were still standing in the sixteenth century, when the ruins were drawn by Baldassare Peruzzi and Andrea Palladio, among others.

Tres favorable

  • 3 of 5

Excellent location

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is in the center of Rome. One can easily walk to most attractions by day and be close to restaurants and night life in the evening. The opportunity to walk by or through the Pantheon each evening (free) on our way to dinner was amazing. We easily walked to Travestere and Campo di Fiori for dinner but found our best dinner right across the street at La Ciambella.

The bed (Queen sized)was comfortable and the entire apt very clean. Combined with the tall ceilings the apt seemed large for 2 people. Lorenzo communicated promptly, met us at the apt to show us around and arranged for a car to the airport on departure. The kitchen was stocked with coffee, teas, milk, juice and some breads and jelly. A grocery store is a few blocks away. We particularly liked that Homeaway lets you filter your search to include non smoking and washer options. With the dollar/euro exchange Rome is a very affordable vacation!

What a great place!!

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to be close to the Pantheon and this was the perfect location. Whenever we got tired of walking we just went back to our "home away from home" for a nice rest. And the apartment was lovely-- clean, nicely decorated, had everything we needed, a sweet view onto a non-touristy street, a supermarket around the corner, Roscioli nearby (we ate a whole panettone in one night), comfortable beds and Lorenzo was so wonderful to work with (he even arranged a car for us to the airport). Keep in mind that Rome is a big city with all the normal big city noises and while my family slept like logs I found it helpful to have earplugs to sleep- and heavy windows and big shutters helped. Overall it was perfect. Thank you so much Lorenzo!!

Charming apartment with excellent host & location!!

  • 5 of 5

Lorenzo was a fantastic host. He gave us a tour and made sure we knew how to operate the locks with the different keys. The apartment was very clean and stocked with the basic cooking essentials. This apartment (located on a side street) location has lots of history and a short stroll to the Pantheon. My husband and I personally love this area near the Pantheon as we've stayed at the hotel around the corner. First time renting an apartment in Rome and we were not disappointed! Highly recommend and when we return to Rome, we will seek out Lorenzo to stay here again!

Wonderful apartment with great location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I recently spent 12 amazing days in Rome and had the perfect stay in this apartment. Lorenzo set up our transfer from the airport to the apartment (and back to the airport when we left) and was there to meet us outside when we arrived. He was so helpful and always accessible if we had any questions. The WiFi didn’t work for a short period of time and Lorenzo immediately worked to get it taken care of for us.

The apartment was the perfect size for the two of us and in such a central location that we were able to walk nearly everywhere we went. The new windows were indeed very good at blocking out street noise. It wasn’t 100% quiet but that’s to be expected from a busy and fun neighborhood like this.

This truly is a great place to stay-reasonably priced, perfect location, nice size and well equipped. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again on a return trip!! Thank you Lorenzo!
