Beautiful apartment nestled in a gorgeous historical town
It was a trip of a lifetime! The apartment in the castle not only had breathtaking views but did not skimp on the luxuries! Our host made sure that everything we would ever need was provided in the apartment which was also extremely comfortable. I will definitely be returning to stay and would recommend to anyone visiting Tuscany to stay here.
A gem apartment nestled in beautiful Tuscany.
In early October, four of us (2 couples), arrived at the Tuscan Tower late in the evening. La Costa was still open so we enjoyed a fabulous dinner. The restaurant could not have been more conveniently located or welcoming.
We awoke early the next morning to the most beautiful view. The fog nestled in the low lands with many layers and shadings across the horizon. The apartment is so much larger than we expected. The photos do not completely reflect how spacious the living room and bedrooms are. The apartment offers so much more in comfort and is well appointed. We made dinner one night in the apartment and found the kitchen well equipped with cooking supplies and table linens. The building is secure and parking is extremely convenient.
The grocery store, which is just a short distance away, was well stocked and very convenient.
In the morning, we loved sharing coffee and pastries on the tower overlooking the valley. The view and tower were equally pleasant upon our return after a day trip or for the magnificent star gazing after dark.
We ventured out on several day trips to the surrounding towns, shopping, wine and cheese tastings, hiking and dining. Every town has its own charm but, we found Montefollonico so enjoyable as a home destination at the end of each of our day trips. It is a gem nestled in beautiful Tuscany.
Beautifully restored castle tower in walled town
Enter the gates to Montefollonico and you’ve entered another world -- a world of tranquility and quiet beauty. The town, surrounded by walls built in the 12th century, consists of a few cobblestoned narrow roads lined with old stone buildings with flower boxes, two excellent restaurants, a market, and town vintner. And, at the foot of the walled town sits the town’s castle. This beautifully restored building has been divided into 4 or 5 apartments. John and Wendy’s Tower is the top floor of the castle and includes the rook-shaped tower. The apartment is beautiful with a large living room/kitchen that has gourmet kitchen appliances and French door windows that open to a panoramic view of olive groves, vineyards and Tuscan farmland which seems to go on forever. The two bedrooms contain comfortable beds. And the bathrooms have high-end fixtures. When we arrived, we found that John and Wendy had left a bottle of the town’s wine for us. We immediately climbed to the top of the tower and enjoyed the wine while taking in the sun setting over the countryside. In the mornings, we would go to the town’s market and pick up pastries and eggs and eat breakfast on top of the tower. On some evenings, after returning from daytrips, we would make dinner and take in the cooler evening breezes on top of the tower. When we were in Italy, the country was in the midst of a heatwave. Even though the apartment is not air conditioned, the apartment quickly cooled down in the evenings. Without the tower, the apartment would still have been lovely. But, with the tower, we truly felt like we were royalty. This was the perfect base for a week in Tuscany. But, truthfully, we could have spent the entire week in Montefollonico, hiking in the nearby El Tondo park, eating at the restaurants, and visiting with the town’s vintner. This is a magical one-of-a-kind place.
So happy you enjoyed your stay with us!
Gorgeous! Would stay again
Lovely, modernized flat in historic building. Beautiful countryside views from the flat, and one of a kind panorama from roof terrace. Well outfitted kitchen, comfy living space. Quiet town off the beaten track - yet with conveniences such as ATM, small grocer, restaurant & wine shop. John and Wendy provide an excellent welcome packet in advance plus books in the flat to help visitors plan their stay. We hope to return!
Thanks for your review. Your right about Montefollonico having a neat little collection of businesses. I just wish we had our own gelati shop, but my waistline is better for it!
Great apartment, great town
John and Wendy have a great apartment, make the process of booking very easy and give a lot of good advice on where to visit, eat etc. Montefollonico is a lovely, quiet town with some very good restaurants and also a good base to explore the area.
We arrived in the late and in the dark, thought what a pretty town and apartment, woke up and then WOW !!! The views from the windows are great, and then you get to the Tower - 360 degree view to die for.
So thanks John and Wendy, loved the apartment and appreciated all your advice - we'll be back :)
There were 4 of us (two couples) sharing this spacious, modern and comfortable apartment. Great views and a great home base for our tour of Tuscany's various towns and attractions. Wendy and John are excellent hosts. Highly recommended!
Vicino a Monte Oliveto, Bagno Vignoni, Moltacino.
