This large bright apartment of 180 square meters is on the 3rd floor of an old building, but fortunately we have an elevator!. The apartment has recently been renovated, added furniture and furnishings. There are big windows overlooking Florence's roofs, so there is a lot of natural light.
My mother is a great interior designer, so everything that was done here has been designed by her. We didn’t change much of the structure of the house. We only divided the space inside in order to make the rooms more comfortable.
She decided to use a lot of vintage furniture. So we went all over Italy looking for armchairs, tables, lamps, abat-jours, wardrobes etc. Then there are armchairs, sofas, cupboards and tables from the 50’s and the 60’s that we bought and restored.
I think her major ability was keeping a really good balance between the look of the contemporary architecture and furniture, the refined antiques and the touch of the warm and historic building.
Ceilings are high and there are wooden floors throughout the house. The kitchen is very functional with oven, microwave, dishwasher and a large fridge at guests' disposal.
One of the three bedrooms has an attached private bathroom and a large double bed. This is the quietest room in the house because there are no roads under its double-glazed windows. During the night seems to be away from the city!
The other two bedrooms are also spacious and have high ceilings too. One of this has a loft made during the last renovation in order to take full advantage of the large space. In this bedroom there is a double bed, and the sofa bed can be opened if the guests are more than six.
Obviously we provide clean sheets and towels for all the guests. I bring them in a professional laundry that do this type of service for small hotels and b&b.
Unfortunately, I have to use a sentence which is really overused by all the hoteliers but... all of my guests, when they sign our guest book write that it is really like being home away from home.
The place is very elegant and beautiful, but very welcoming and homey at the same time.
So that’s the essence; it’s very elegant but very informal. Everybody feels like at home, so they can just pretend it's their house, going to the living room, preparing a coffee, watching TV – and nobody says anything because it’s theirs – they’re alone.
The house is located in a strategic position in the heart of Florence, few steps far from Piazza Santo Spirito, Pitti Palace, Ponte Vecchio and the Boboli Garden, in a limited traffic area and generally sheltered from the noise of the city.
I'm 31 I was born in Siena and actually I live in the countryside of Florence. I manage some apartment in Florence, Siena and Follonica. I travel often to Milan where my girlfriend lives. When I can I also go to my parents house near Siena. I love to stay there because they lives in a beautiful countryside. I like to see new places, for this reason I try to visit new places as soon I can and take pictures of them, my Instagram profile is 'bernardofurgoni'. I'm very interested in plants, historic gardens and nature. I love rowing on the Arno river but I also like cycling and swimming. If you come to Florence I can give you some interesting suggestion for some special place here in Tuscany.

I love to be an host, I thought that doing this the world would come travelling to me, which is almost like seeing the world. Another thing was, Florence is a very busy city with a lot of people from abroad, but it’s really hard for us locals to get to know these people. The Florentines like to have separate lives from the tourists. For me it’s the opposite. I want to get in touch with these foreigners coming to Florence. And now I have the chance to get to know them. So that’s is my way of sharing Florence with the world.
I love this house because is a perfect compromise. It's in a strategic position, step away from the city centre but far from the noise of the touristic area. The Santo Spirito square is what I love most. It’s in the heart of the Oltrarno, the local area. It’s a beautiful square with a beautiful church that was designed by Brunelleschi. It’s a very simple design, a very simple facade – very clear. And there are a couple of good restaurants and bars. Not like those at Piazza Michelangelo or on the other side of the river. I always tell my guests to avoid restaurants there. They treat you like a wallet with two legs. I wish that these places would close because it’s an offence to tourism.
Anyway, at Santo Spirito square you have all sorts of people hanging around — it’s a sample of real life. In the summertime, there are concerts there and some organic food markets. And there’s a flea market – every Saturday there is a different one. It’s a place where every time I go there, I meet someone I know, or there’s something interesting to see or I eat good food. For me, my idea of Florence is Santo Spirito.
I don’t need to tell you about the Uffizi and the Academia, which are very well known — once in your life you have to see them.
Something that I love is going to the Piazza de Michelangelo, because especially at sunset you see this reddish light all over the city and it’s so beautiful.
Florence is divided by the river. There’s one side where the Uffizi and everything touristic is and the other part, the Oltramo, where the locals are. Here you can eat and drink very well and be where the locals hang out. I would really suggest the Capella de Medici, which are the tombs of the Medici family with reclining statues by Michelangelo. They are amazing. I would also recommend the Capella Brancacci, which has a fresco about Adam and Eve being chased out of Eden. It’s a very old church that was restored recently and the colours are just stunning.
L'appartamento, in posizione ideale per il nostro soggiorno, è piaciuto molto a tutti, confortevole e curato, lo consiglio!
L'appartamente è pulito e veramente molto spazioso.
We stayed in the apartment 6 people and were very comfortable. The apartment is beautiful and very spacious just as pictured, although could have been cleaner as some of the white walls had markings and the one bathroom door was old. However the location could not have been better! Only a 5 minute walk to the Ponte Vecchio and 2 mins to Pitti Palace. There are so many fantastic restaurants near by, highly recommended is la casalinga which was incredible and right around the corner from the piazza santo spirito, make sure to make a reservation in advance! As well as once you exit the apartment if you turn left walk on the same street until the end where it intersects with the street the Pitti Palace is on, was a fantastic home cooking restaurant which you can do takeout for cheap prices which the food was amazing! Overall really enjoyed the apartment and would return!
The listings is accurate. Bernardo met me at his apartment on time and made the check in easy. He was very helpful with suggestions on places to eat, things to see and how to get around.
The apartment is much bigger than how it looks like in the pictures, the bathrooms are awesome! All the sheets were freshly prepared including the towels etc. The lift made lugging the bags easier as it's a 3rd floor apartment. Internet service was good and a Florence Trip Guide books available in the room were useful. There were a few international sockets left for us. Bernardo kindly helped us in booking a taxi to the station aswell.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience and a wonderful place to stay if you're visiting Florence. Will definitely recommend this to whoever going to have a memorable time in Florence!
wow!!! Bernardo's property is stunning and amazing: exactly as you can see on photos or also better.
I have never find a so clean apartmanet during all my holidays, so it was a pleasure stay there.
Bernardo was absoluty nice and friendly: great and fast communication, perfect check in....perfect everything!
I'll definitily reccomend this apartment to all my friends :)
Beautiful apt 15 minutes walk to all Florence attractions. Comfortably fit family of 5 (14-70+). Highlight was huge master BR and bath, and roomy living room. Bernardo was awesome: flexible with reservation and provided great customer service, incl recommendations for dining. If you miss the Mercado Centrale, you'll miss an incredible dining experience (fantastic food options and prices). Thanks Bernardo for making our 3 day stay memorable!
