This charming Villa called Piccola Bramasole, rests, just outside Cortona’s ancient walls, overlooking the peaceful Valdichiana.
Its name takes after the Original Villa Bramasole, owned by the notorious American writer Frances Mayes, which is only a few hundred metres away.
Surrounded by olive groves and woods, it’s ideal for a private Getaway immersed in nature but, still, in walking distance to the vivacious Tuscan Town life of Cortona and the beauties of ancient Etruscan History.
Piccola Bramasole is a Tuscan rustic stone Villa which has maintained its original features in order to combine authenticity to modern comforts.
The outdoor terrace offers great views and a perfect spot for barbecues and dining al fresco under the pergola. The garden and swimming pool allow guests to relax and enjoy the “Tuscan Sun”.
The Villa’s layout is as follows:
Ground floor: living and dining room with amazing original stone fireplace, fully equipped kitchen. Reading room with TV. One Bathroom.
First floor: 2 double bedrooms of which one can be arranged with twin beds. Both rooms have bathroom ensuite.
Exactly as advertised. Piccolo Bramasole was the perfect spot to celebrate our 5th Anniversary. Cortona is a gem of a town and the location made for a perfect home base for day trips... one hour to Florence, Sienna, Montepulchiano, Etc... Fantastic! Highly recommend!
Four of us (two couples) stayed for a week in September and fully enjoyed the villa and the town of Cortona. The real advantage to this villa is the location - private with great views and only a pleasant 3km walk along the road (flat) and through a lovely park into town which we did 5 of our 7 days. Cortona has a lot to offer and we particularly enjoyed exploring the town and made only a one day side trip to Siena an hour away as well as a half day drive through the neighbouring Umbria hills. By its geography, Cortona is not over run with adjacent urban sprawl and retains its isolated medieval character. If you visit the museum you will find it dates to early Etruscan times in 6 - 7 BC. The town offers many good restaurants, shops, churches and an interesting fortification - lots to do.
As for the villa itself it has been well restored to give that Tuscan charm and has great views from the villa and the pool. There are a few simple additions needed to bump this place up to that excellent rating we have experienced in other villas. As mentioned to Lucia we offered the following comments:
- no hair dryer
-better lighting in kitchen
-bedroom 2 needs a wardrobe and second bedside table and the ensuite needs a hook near the shower for clothes or towel whilst in the shower. This ensuite also needs a shelf for toiletries. The other bedroom has all of these items looked after.
-the chairs indoors at the table and outdoors at the table are poor quality and very uncomfortable for dining and should be replaced
-the driveway needs a little grading at the top to stop the car from bottoming out and removal of some dirt at the bottom would allow a little more room to turn around.
- the tree below and in front of the patio needs to be removed as it significantly blocks the view while sitting or dining on the patio
Its a great villa in a great location, just a few little changes needed.
Our hostess Lucia was very friendly, and helpful with local advice.
Four of us have just returned from a wonderful stay at this delightful villa, beautifully thought out and decorated in an unfussy way with all we could need, in absolute privacy and quiet, with own swimming pool and pizza oven/barbecue. Just enough stroll to the centre of Cortona to work up a thirst and squeeze in another delicious meal from a marvellous selection of restaurants and bars where the natives are friendly. Will be pleased to return.
Ps Fly to Perugia and hire a car, easy peasy
Cortana is a very pleasant old town where we found easily good restaurants and gelataria.
The house is well renovated and has a pleasant overlook.
The swimming pool is quiet and well exposed to the sun.
The bathrooms need to have more storage space.
The kitchen is not equipped enough and don't allow us to cook easily the food we've found in Cortona .
Chairs inside and outside are old and uncomfortable .
The internet connection is of poor quality.
Luisa reception was very nice. She was kind enough to buy meals for the day of our arrival was a holiday
