Beautiful, spacious, well maintained & well situated Villa with spectacular views & beautiful pool

  • 5 of 5

Villa il Casolare provided a quintessential Tuscan vacation for our family trip to Tuscany for a week in early May 2017. Situated on the top of a hill, we felt as if we were in our own Tuscan hill town. The view of the surrounding countryside from the Villa was spectacular. Looking out from the Villa--which we often did when having morning coffee on one of the outdoor patios--are groves of olive trees, vineyards, rolling hills, fields of different sizes that resembled a patchwork quilt of various shades of green, stately dark green Cyprus trees, small clusters of other trees and, in the distance, the towers of San Gimignano. So very peaceful. So very beautiful. And for the photographers & painter in our family, the scenery provided excellent subject matter.

The Villa itself is very spacious, is very well maintained (inside and out) and was perfect for our family of 8 -- 3 couples and two very young children. Each couple and one child had its own large bedroom and modern bathroom. There was plenty of room for everyone. The kitchen is well equipped and more than adequate for preparing meals for our group, many of whom enjoy cooking. The dinning areas are sufficiently large to accommodate our family. Breakfast and occasional lunches were on the outdoor patio next to the kitchen and the occasional dinners were in the indoor dining room. The swimming pool is beautiful and provided a refreshing break from touring. The Villa is a short distance from Certaldo were there is a grocery store & restaurants.

Eleonora & Andreas were excellent hosts and very accommodating. Before arriving we gave Eleonora a shopping list for groceries and other items to have when we arrived. They also offered to make a Tuscan dinner and we were able to select each course from a menu Eleonora provided before we arrived. The dinner was excellent. Since the night of our dinner was our daughter’s birthday, Eleonora provided (in addition to a desert from the menu) a wonderful birthday cake for her. The Villa was well stocked with wines from local wineries, all of which were very good. Eleonora & Andreas also provided useful “tourist” information for our travels in Tuscany.

As for sightseeing, the Villa is well situated for touring Tuscany and is in driving distance from well known Tuscan towns as well as Florence and Lucca.

Thank you Eleonora & Andreas for sharing Villa il Casolare with us & making our family vacation in Tuscany so special & memorable.

We highly recommend it.

More than advertised....peaceful...well appointed...great for family & friends

  • 5 of 5

We rented this Villa and it was all we expected and more. We wanted a trip with family and friends and there was more than enough room in the house for 8 aldults. The kitchen was well appointed with all we needed. The owners stocked the kitchen ahead of us arriving based on our shopping list. They were more than accommodating and easily accessible which is important when traveling in a different country. We planned this trip from NJ and had friends from PA, KS and MD join us in Certaldo. We hired the chef which was a great dinner outside and exceeded our expectation and honestly the best tiramisu I have ever had.

The owners organizaed dinner locally and we felt like we were truly emmersed into the Italian culture. We also had them coordinate car service from Florence and rented a car for our time there. I only have GREAT things to share about our time in this ole Villa. It was nicely updated and well appointed. Strongly recommend this to friends and we will return.

Picture perfect vacation in the Tuscan countryside

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful vacation at Villa Il Casolare! The house was beautifully renovated with modern and well-equipped kitchen and baths, while retaining its old world charm and character. It was clean, comfortable and the grounds and pool were well-cared for and truly lovely. We were there in late June/early July when the weather was warm and sunny. Despite the lack of AC, by closing up the house in the morning and then opening up the shutters and windows at night (the Tuscan way!), and using the fans provided, we were plenty cool and comfortable while we slept. The crystal clear pool was set amidst a grove of olive trees, and we spent many afternoons relaxing and reading under the shady canopy, in one of the many chairs and lounges.

The location of Il Casolare was convenient to Florence (easy train ride), Siena, San Gimignano (both stunningly beautiful, medieval, walled cities) and even Cinque Terre - a bit longer drive, but well worth the visit! We found that interspersing a busier sightseeing day with a relaxing day at the villa made for an ideal vacation schedule.

Eleonora, the owner, was warm, gracious and incredibly helpful to us as we planned our time in Italy. She generously helped me with train schedules, restaurant recommendations and reservations as well as local info and maps. She and Andrea even prepared a delicious meal one evening for us at the house; something that they offer and which I would highly recommend. They had a wonderful selection of wines available at the house, as well. As a family of runners, our efforts on the quiet and mostly shady roads around the villa were rewarded with breathtaking views at every bend.

Most of all, we loved the loggia next to the house, with its stunning view of the countryside, including the distinct hill and towers of San Gimignano. We spent much time here reading, writing, sketching and enjoying breakfast, the occasional lunch and more dinners than we expected! Out of the 9 nights we spent there, more than half included dinner in this amazing spot. We made a trip to the local grocery store and market and found ingredients to supplement the thoughtful welcome basket provided to us by Eleonora. Some of our favorite memories include all of us in the kitchen, cooking up a delicious pasta feast and then dining outside, watching the sun go down, with a glass of wine!

I would absolutely recommend this villa to my family and friends and will definitely plan a return visit!

Tuscany Villa for Family Gathering

  • 5 of 5

The Villa Il Casolare was everything the description and pictures showed. This was an absolutely beautiful villa and generous in its living spaces. Eclectic touches thru-out the villa showed that a lot of care went into the renovation and decorations. The surrounding hills were remarkable for the views of vineyards, olive groves and out a little further the hill city of San Gimignano and it's towers. For the six adults and three children we all had our own rooms and ensuite bathrooms. Plenty of electricity and never without hot water. The pool was done very well and at the end of a day of touring a great relaxation. The owner prepared one of our meals, the food excellent and serving it outside was a great event for our family -- celebrating five July birthdays on the 4th. The owner even had fantastic birthday cake prepared for us. The wines stocked at the villa were almost all very good and reasonably priced. Overall I give the Villa and the owner 5 Stars for meeting our expectations.

On the downside we visited in one of the hottest months and Italy was also experiencing a terrible heat wave --we were at 104 degrees one day--the pool really helped. We suggested to the owner that every bedroom should have fans and downstairs a couple for the setting areas. The only negative were the mosquitoes--seemed to be in the house and all around the Villa. Probably due to all of the new plantings underway.

Would we stay there again? Absolutely -- but only in the fall or spring.
