Not handicap assessable. I appealed to the owner for at least a partial refund. And was refused. I am still waiting for the return of my security deposit.
This guest did not communicate to us that he is handicapped. The cottage is not advertised anywhere as being handicap accessible nor did I ever say it was. The guest also did not inform us he was bringing a pet with him which incurs extra charges on us from the association. This guest was threatening to us in regards to a refund. His security deposit has already been refunded to him via VRBO but per the cancellation policy no refund for the stay was issued.
Loved our trip. disappointed with management
We arrived in our cottage at check in time. Place was nice, but way too noisy as it was literally at the pool. But we delt with that, and enjoyed the cottage. Accomadations we're very nice. We took great pride in caring for our cottage while we were there. They provided a vacuum and a broom and dust pan which we utilized daily to get rid of any sand or dirt we brought in with us. We did cook some meals there and meticulously cleaned up afterward. The sink in the bathroom was tiny, so sometimes water ended up on the floor. We designated a washcloth to wipe up any water. This washcloth did appear dirty. but that was just from the dirt that was on the floor to begin with. One day we got a bit of chocolate on the sheets from indulging in nice treats. We thought we wiped it up fully. Upon leaving we cleaned up the best we could, knowing that the cleaning crew was coming in at 10 am, and they had until 3:30 to clean for the next guests.
To our surprise the owner claimed we left feces on the sheets, on the towels and walls. That is just not true. We inspected all rooms before we checked out. They claim that they had to throw out all the linen because of what they found. Yes, the towels ansd sheets were in need of washing after a 9 day stay, but NO feces were on these items. We are not animals, we are mature adults with more than commen sense. They claimed that the cost to replace the towels and sheets was exorbitant. I do not see how that is possible since the sheets were paper thin and the towels were thin as well. Even if there was some mess around the toilet,a heavy duty washing with proper cleaning products cleans up anything. I am very very saddened by this horrific claim. My husband and I have stayed at numerous hotels and cottages over many years, using Homeaway, and never have we been accused of somethine so heinous. To all future guests of this establishment, please be aware of their practices. My understanding that a reputal company thouougly will clean a room with proper cleaning products, and disinfectants after each guest stay no matter how the place appears. I feel it is just a scam to withhold the money that was to be refunded for the damage fee.
We have never had to keep security deposits for our hundreds of guests ever, until this one. There was feces on more than just the towels. It was all over the bedding, on the walls in the bathroom. We had to pay for an extensive, hazard cleaning as it was indisputably feces throughout the unit. We lost more money than just the security deposit due to these guest. It was NOT chocolate or dirt. You can easily tell the difference between that and feces. Our cleaners have seen it all and know what they are looking at. It was not just the usual dirty towels/etc that we expect. This was beyond anything I’ve ever seen before. And I pray I never have to see it again. Poop absolutely everywhere. This was horrible, and for future guests, we had to throw away these towels and bedding for you. This was repulsive. You only left this review after we told you we could not return the security deposit to you, you even said to us privately that you loved the stay and had the best time.
Again, we have never had to keep the security deposit until your stay. And we have already had many guests since your stay and they all received the full security deposit back. Good luck to you, I hope the next person to host you does not have the same upsetting and disgusting experience.
A few issues, but the owner made it right immediately. Great little place for the 3 of us for a weekend.
Clean and efficient.
Nice room, easy parking and relatively quiet. Front windows do not open, so difficult to have a pleasant breeze.
Not recommended for just two people staying one or two nights, as there is a $50 linen fee if you aren't traveling with bed sheets, pillow cases, and towels.
Owner graciously waived our fee since we weren't made aware of it until a few days prior to arrival.
Nicely decorated and comfortable beds.
We are glad you liked the room and enjoyed your stay! We do not provide linens but there is an option to rent from the office of the complex. The fee the office charges varies and we, as owners of the cottage do not set those prices nor does the fee go to the owners. However, guests can bring their own, and many do! We are glad you enjoyed and we hope you return to Maine again soon!
Cottage in Wells, ME - pet friendly and reasonably priced
The cottage was very clean and handy to everything being on Rt. 1. It is located right as you enter the complex, and while most all other cabins had a grill either at the front or back entrance, ours was off to the side so it was a bit more difficult to cook out carrying food across the parking lot. I was expecting a bigger refrigerator and had brought food from home which some of went to waste, but shame on me for not asking. The sinks were very small, and there wasn't any closet to hang clothes, but again, I didn't ask. We are already thinking of coming back next year, depending on our circumstances. My brother also stayed in the complex at another cabin. All in all an enjoyable stay was had by everyone! We have used Home Away and VRBO for several vacations in other areas, NY, VT, NC, etc and have always been satisfied. Thank you
The room was nicely decorated and clean. AC was a life-saver.
Only thoughts for improvements: bathroom door needs to open/close with ease . Looks like someone cracked the door trying to get out. Also looks like some black mold in bathroom. Have not received our “ safety deposit” back. No word of it being sent out.

We appreciate the suggestions, we will correct the issue with the door! We inspected for mold and did not find any. I will make sure our cleaner keeps an eye out for it and reports if anything arises. VRBO holds and returns the security deposit for 5-7 business days after check out. You checked out on the 5th so you should be receiving it soon!
