We had a lovely stay in Vernazza. It was a great base to explore the region in.
It was exactly as described. Clean and very comfortable. Thank you Christina.
Great location - okay apartment
The location was beautiful but the apartment was extremely run down - it wasn’t classically old and charming but needed a lot of maintenance and was pretty uncomfortable
Let me desagree on your point.
Maybe November is not he best period of the year to visit the 5 Terre and the Italian sea shore. It is quite rainy and humid. Our house was built in 1400 and even if restored in 2009 it is not possible to make it looks and be confortable like a modern, XXI c. apartmemt. Decoreted cement tiles are original from '800 end it will be never possible to fix them. Two bathrooms then is unique in a 4 people apartment in Vernazza.
Forniture, like beds and sofa are new and some are old from our family. The heating is working properly.... I suggest you to come back in the sunny season.
Perfect Location, view and size
What a great little place. We had two coupes stay in this historic apartment overlooking the the sea. Well supplied, comfortable beds and perfect location. The living dining room might be the biggest in Vernazza! We hosted a candlelight dinner party for 6 people during the historic storm of October 29. We used this as a base to experience the the true culture of the Cinque Terre region.
Great! Stay at home is the only thing to do during a wind and sea storm like the one on the 29th last. Candle dinner then is a must!
Great view plenty of room.
We were a group of 4 women travelling together & there was plenty of space. The owner was great at communicating. It’s a noisy little town but that is not the apartment’s fault. Great view of the harbor & town square.
Not as expected...
Lovely location looking out over the square and beach, beautiful day and night, unfortunately the accommodation wasn't as we expected. The kitchen whilst having a good washing machine and fridge, doesn't have an oven and only has a camping style hob with matching which didn't light.
The living room has severe wood worm in one of the pieces of furniture (really hoping we left them behind as most of our house is wood!) The main bedroom has bed bugs (hence how we know the washing machine works so well as everything was hot washed before we left, in the hope that we didn't bring them with us!) My legs however didn't fair so well and have spent three weeks with very large, itchy, painful red 'bumps' all over them and spent a fortune on cream!
No air conditioning, just two cheap fans. Shutters were kept shut with the window open most of the time to try and keep the apartment cool (not sure we really managed this though).
The square it overlooks has a real buzz into the early hours of the morning which is actually quite lovely, worst thing is the bin collection men that arrive around 7am every day, particularly noisy the day they collect the glass and drag the bags down the surrounding steps. No chance of a lie in!
We mis-read the site and thought we had to book for a week, 3 days would have been more than enough (although might not have realised about the bed bugs properly in this time).
Many surrounding restaurants, although the meals aren't cheap. Great Focaccia shop opposite and a little corner shop. Market wasn't really worth waiting for and quite disappointing (no fish or meat stall, a few fresh veg stalls and then fabric and 'bric a brack' stalls mainly).
Getting around by train was okay once we figured out how, but be very careful to get on the right train as the guards are pure evil.
If our guest a nightmerish holiday, as it is from her words, we also had a nightmerih guest.
She contacted me only 2 days after departure while she could have call me during her stay. None of our guests before or after her had such a problem like bed bugs, as reviews do not show, and considering that we are Superhost for other booking channels.
I also tried to explain that bugs might have been taken from her from outside (path, beaches, trains...) to the inside of the apartment. As soon as she informed me, even if we had new Australian guests staying, we provided a deep cleaning even if we did not find any bed bugs at all.
I refunded anyhow 1/3 of the rent because of the problem suffered (for which I am not still sure was caused at the apartment, being then only 2 people bit of the 4). And I am finally happy that the family returned safe at their "hundreds- square-meters-woodden-floor-house" in the UK without any bugs from Vernazza!
Indeed we found some wood worms powder below the old walltable and we fixed all possible holes with specific product.
Regarding airconditioning: it is not listed in the assets of the apartment as Vernazza is under the reagional Beaux Arts Office control and airconditioned engines are not allowed if visible from the otside, on the facades of ancient houses, which are part of this Unesco worldiwide famouse landscape.
The same for TV hardware. We provide fans (cheap or not).
The "camping fireplace" has been chosen because it fits - for dimension and "style" - in the original coal fireplace of the kitchen and it is anyhow useful with its 3 fires.
By choise there is no owen at home, and it is not listed in the amenities.
Rubbish and glass pick up in early morning: Vernazza as all the other Ligurian villages were founded in the Midle Age, when rubbish was simply trown away from the windows. Nowday it must be collected passing with small trucks in the only road of the village early in the morning when noone is around, before the village starts to get alive.
Restaurants aren't cheap because logistic is quite expensive, while fish is fished locally by small boats, and sold at not industrial frozen price range.
This is my parents' apartment: mainetend and cared the most as possible in its authentic details and original materials, even with some modern facilities as 2 bathrooms: it is no a "hotel-standard-new-rebuilt apartment" as many in the 5 Terre. We are proud of it and our guests love it.
