i, along with my husband and 5- and 15-year old daughters, stayed for a week.

the room was clean and had a lovely ocean view and balcony. there was plenty of room for the 4 of us. bear in mind that while staying as an owner's guest, maid service is $35. we opted for that right in the middle of our week in order to have clean towels and the other amenities. you will need a car. we went to the publix and stocked the in-room fridge, and out to dinner each night.

the resort property was very nice and was not crowded, we could alway's get poolside chairs. the 5-year old spent about 8 hours a day in the heated lazy river.

I'd never pay the normal hotel rates to stay at this spot but by renting through an owner you'll get tremendous value for your stay. The suites are lovely and spacious and you can't beat the direct ocean view and private balcony - by far the best of many oceanfront places I've stayed in. The lovely orange sunrise will poke you in the eyeball if you don't draw the shades before bed! Only downfall is the outrageous price for parking - paid more for parking each day than the car rental itself.

The beachfront right around this hotel is currently damaged from Hurricane Sandy so if you are wanting a lot of beach time, you might want to look further south toward Miami or up coast. It's not impossible to sit out but the hotel was closing beach access so you had to sneak out or use a public access way a couple hundreds yards away. They were not putting out beach chairs except for a few hours around low tide. It will be at least February/March if not longer before you see the beachfront fixed.

A few months ago, our 93-yr.-old Dad said he'd like to see the ocean crash on the shore one more time. My sister & I decided to fulfill that wish by taking him to Ft. Lauderdale. I couldn't have scripted a more perfect location than Pelican Grand Beach Resort. Our 9th floor room overlooking the ocean was centrally located near both elevator & ice machine, though I never heard noise from either one. I could, however, experience the amazing sound of the ocean waves right outside our balcony door. Dad could not stop exclaiming "This is a beautiful place!" the entire stay, & absolutely loved the room in particular & the hotel in general. We ate in the "bar" cafe our first night & the fresh grilled fish sandwich was delicious. Dad loves his ice cream, so having an ice cream parlor in the lobby area was like a dream come true for him. That said, 6 bucks for a root beer float is crazy, even by hotel standards (2 scoops of Edy's & a can of Barq's - at least they gave him the whole can). Staff couldn't have been nicer or more accomodating. Breakfast on the veranda was one highlight of many here. Another was the zero-entry pool & the lazy river, both heated to a nice temp. Having it quite warm was great for Dad, since we walked him into the pool for his first swim in probably 30 years or more, and he LOVED it. We have video of him with his arms folded on top of an innertube, floating down the lazy river. We also sprang for the Sunday brunch and couldn't really eat the rest of the day, so much to choose from! Beds were comfy, but I can't say I would necessarily put anyone but a small child on the pullout sofa. I thought it was full-sized, but it was twin from what I could tell ( I sleep nightly on a full-size bed). Having been informed of this issue ahead of time by our host, I packed an inflatable bed & pump in my carry-on, which worked out great for us. For anyone interested, a queen-size, double-height air bed along with electric pump weighs 20 lbs. & will fit in a wheeled carry-on, no problem.

Dad already wants to know when we're going back, and can't stop talking about this trip. I am so thankful to be able to have these memories!

Although this trip was about our father, my sister & I had a blast too. Take a water taxi ride - DO IT!! Try to get on with Steven & Jim, they're the best! Visited Bonnet House & spent an afternoon in Hollywood. Visit Jake's At The Beach Saturday afternoon, you won't regret it - the regular Saturday band Curbstone ROCKS!!

Seven nights in this room were FABULOUS. Large, clean, private, BEST VIEW by far. We enjoyed our stay immensely and appreciated the security of VRBO and the owners of this room were wonderful and cooperative. I cannot say enough about the Pelican and the room we stayed in - THE Pelican is so friendly - everyone - JUST FABULOUS. I will definitely rebook this room next year. Even thinking of a long weekend with the girls - Loved it!!!!!

This will go down in our record books as one of the best vacation stays ever! Although there was a mix-up in our room assignments (we were supposed to be in the owner's room, but they accidently placed a resort customer in the room), the hotel was very accommodating to make-up for the confusion. They provided us with a similar room on a different floor. Breakfast and dinner, oceanfront views, and the lazy pool were awesome. The customer service was always timely and helpful. The room was clean and provided all the amenities needed for our stay. As a courtesy they also provided us with housekeeping and clean towels daily. I will recommend this stay to all of my friends and family. If you plan on visiting Fort Lauderdale, make sure you take a ride on the water taxi. It is a very fun ride and inexpensive way to see the town and famous homes on the waterway (3 hour trip). The front desk offers 2 for 1 coupons for the water taxi ride. We also did not drive or rent a car, and was able to get around inexpensively using the water taxi and local yellow cab. The C and G shuttle that the resort recommends for transport to and from the airport is also a good deal (compared to using a taxi). I will be back again one day soon!

What a truly AWESOME vacation!! From the gorgeous room to great staff it was a vacation that will go down in the books. The unit itself was beautiful, clean and the views was priceless. The staff here is top notch always willing to help out. I cant wait to return...my kids love the lazy river and complimentary goodies poolside! Love love love it!!

We stayed there for 18 great days. No complaints!!
