Superb place to be with excellent view on Balaton Lake from house and terrace with swimming pool! House has all you need for a perfect holiday. Badascony is a 'pearl' on Balaton Lake. We were there with two teenagers (14 and 18) who loved the pool and garden.

Wir sind mit 4 Erwachsenen und 3 Kindern zum Balaton Hill House gereist und hatten einen wunderschönen Urlaub. Wahrscheinlich gibt es am gesamten Plattensee nicht viele Plätze an denen man eine bessere Aussicht genießen kann wie hier. Der riesengroße Garten mit vielen Obstbäumen erfreute uns sehr, da sämtliches reifes Obst (in unserem Fall herrliche Pfirsiche) geerntet werden darf. Aufgrund der langwierigen Trockenheit konnte zwar der Pool nicht vollständig gefüllt werden, aber die vorhandene Wassertiefe von etwa 1,30 Metern war für unsere Bedürfnisse ausreichend. Um den Pool zu erreichen muss man übrigens nochmals 141 Stufen nach oben steigen, aber man wird mit einer noch tolleren Aussicht belohnt. Hier oben gibt es übrigens noch einen großen reetgedeckten Pavillon, der für Grillfeste usw. bestens geeignet ist. Die Ausstattung des Hauses ist für ungarische Verhältnisse überdurchschnittlich, wir haben aber eine Spülmaschine doch etwas vermisst. Man sollte auch wissen, dass die Anfahrt sehr abenteuerlich ist. Es geht auf einer Art schmalen Feldwegen teilweise durch den Wald steil bergauf. Mit der Zeit wurden wir hier mutiger. Eine Zufahrt mit einem Sportwagen ist aber aus unserer Sicht nicht möglich. Der Hausmeister Lajos ist sehr hilfsbereit, spricht aber nur ungarisch. Die Konversation hat aber trotzdem funktioniert ;). Viele umliegende Kellereien und Gastwirtschaften besuchten wir zu Fuß, was auch gut möglich war. Außerdem herrscht in Ungarn die 0-Promille-Grenze und ein Gläschen Wein trinken doch die meisten gerne zum Essen.
Von Badacsony kann man viele interessante Ausflüge (Schiff, Tapolca-Unterwasserhöhlen, Badepark in Balatonfüred, Burg Sümeg mit Reitervorführungen, usw.) machen aber auch einfach am Strand baden gehen. Der See ist ideal für Familien mit Kindern weil man eigentlich wirklich keine Angst wegen der Tiefe haben muss. Vielleicht kommen wir bald einmal wieder.

This is a lovely house with wonderful views of the Balaton. It is quiet and secluded, and has a very nice swimming pool again with perfect views. The swimming pool is at the top of the steep garden so this is not good for people with mobility problems. For others it is perfect. The house is clean, well-equipped (though no wifi or dvd) and the caretaker is charming and helpful. Good places to walk in the area, and lots of wineries nearby.
Visitors should be aware that the road up to the house is not for timid drivers: it is steep, narrow and winding and in bad condition. You will need a sturdy car. But it's worth it when you get there. Strongly recommended.

Have just returned from a blissful 2 weeks at this property. Our party was a family of four - 2 adults and our children of 20 and 17 - all of us had a brilliant time.

The house was very comfortable and matched up to all our expectations. There was lots of different areas to sit and relax inside and out. The house was well equipped both with everyday items and some additional entertainment (DVDs etc).

The location, by Lake Balaton in Hungary, is ideal in lots of ways: we were able to relax completely at the house and around the beautiful pool but within a short drive of the property there was lots to do. We spent our days visiting historic towns, local spas and generally enjoying the sites. In the evenings it was very easy to find good places to eat at very reasonable prices.

Prior to our visit the owner was very helpful in managing our visit and made sure with information provided and the on-site support that we had a successful visit.

I would recommend this property to my friends and family and, indeed to any family, particularly those with slightly older children.

We were a group of 8 including 2 adults , 2 teenage boys (aged 17) 2 teenage girls aged 13 and 15 and 2 younger children aged 8 and 10.

We had a lovely holiday and would definitely recommend Balaton House to other families. The house itself was spacious, nicely decorated and well equipped. The pool was large and secluded and was well maintained throughout our stay. The view from the balcony of Badascony and Lake Balaton was breathtaking and well worth getting up early every morning to enjoy.

The Villa is situated near the top of Badascony Hill and is about a half hour walk to the nearest 2 towns and the lake. We chose not to drive on most occasions as the local roads are steep and narrow although the walk itself through the little hill top paths and vine yards was in itself was a pleasure to savour. The local restaurants were suitable for families and reasonably priced. The lake is ideal for families, it is well supervised warm and good for swimming larger distances and not too crowded.

Although spent most of our time in Badascony for the majority of our stay we did venture to Balatonfured to the water park on the local train, the entry was reasonably priced at 57GBP for all 8 of us and there were 15 slides and attractions for all age groups. We would also recommend the local walks and the caves at Tapolca and the 2 older boys had a day out to Budapest on the train.

The owner Katalin Lowe was very happy to help us plan our stay, business like and friendly.

As other reviewers have commented, the views from the terrace and pool area over the lake are superb. The house is surrounded by vineyards (belonging to neighbouring villas/houses), and has forests at its back (you can climb the hill from the back gate). The house itself is spotlessly clean, thanks to Lajos and his wife, Pearl.

There is a lovely pool area with an old-fashioned, fairly long pool, which has the advantage of being the same depth along its length, and so allows for serious swimmers as well as splashers. The pool house is well-equipped with a fridge and micro-wave, and there is a separate toilet and basin in their own little thatched house! You can take everything you need for a day by the pool, and not have to keep running back to the house.

It was very nice to have so many outside 'sitting areas' - on the front terrace, side terrace under the vine, and up at the pool.

With regards to bedrooms - the twin-bedded room is really only suitable for children, so whilst our 17-year-old (5'8") daughter was ok in that room, my 6' son had to have the second double room. Luckily, there were only the 4 of us staying, and for 4 people the house is fantastic. It would be fine for 6 people, but it would have struggled to seat 8 people comfortably in the lounge.

There are several nice restaurants and wine-tasting places within walking distance (though not in heels, as the tracks are rough). The village of Tomaj is a lovely walk (there are paths down the hill), and has some useful shops. I would particularly recommend nearby Szigliget - the castle and village, as a lovely afternoon out. We wished we had hired bikes, as there are many good cycling routes in the area.

Like another reviewer, we also combined our trip with a couple of days in an apartment in Budapest, flying in and out of Ferihegy - would thoroughly recommend it.

Around the house it is possible to go hicking in the mountains, walk to som very nice restaurants or just walk to have a look on the fantastic suroundings of the BHH. Lajos, the caretaker, and his wife, Pearl, help you out with everything you wish - really nice and warm people!
