My partner and I went on a last minute weekend to Le Touquet in October and had a lovely break. We had a little difficulty finding the right number in the dark but had a lovely surprise once we had gone into the apartment. There is a large kitchen dining area with a balcony overlooking the gardens and on the upstairs mezzanine floor there are two bedrooms, one containing a double bed and the other two singles, with skylights and blinds. The kitchen/diner also has a sofa that opens up into a double bed if there are more than four people staying. The apartment was spotlessly clean and once we had put the heater on, lovely and cosy but spacious enough so that we didn't feel cramped. The kitchen had all the appliances we required and there was a decent sized fridge to keep the wine, cold meats, milk, fish and butter cool. Also if there is a group of people eating in, there is the added advantage of a large dishwasher.

The apartment is in an ideal situation not far from either the beach or the town. It is in a peaceful location, and although it is near a fairly busy road you can hardly hear any traffic and it is very quiet at night. So much so that we overslept both mornings!

We took a car with us so we could explore the area and there is a parking space there for the flat. At first we couldn’t see the lake but did a bit of looking around and found it behind the apartment. Very peaceful and serene, the odd bird squawking – a good place for a picnic in better weather. Apparently you can take a hike across the dunes to the beach, but we didn’t try this as the weather wasn’t great on our second day. We did drive to the beach on the front (only about 10 minutes drive) which was very wide and sandy – the tide was out a long way. The estuary at Le Canche is spectacular with the crescent of sandbank, the sea beyond and the yacht club behind you. The town itself is upmarket and very attractive with a lot of restaurants, brasseries and bars, and a huge market on Saturdays, selling food from nearby farms, clothes, shoes and handbags – definitely not to be missed for the local flavour.

We both agreed we would come back again in warmer weather to make the most of the beach, but enjoyed it thoroughly as a mid Autumn break.
