We had the great pleasure in staying at Denise and Davids' wonderful Casa Borrega in the foothills below Castel Frentano in the Abruzzo region of Italy.
Especially good is the games room, with a high quality pool table and dart board. The pool was very popular, too.
Key memories were trekking along the nearby recently-abandoned railway line located above the Casa, but below Castel Frentano; this gave us a fairly unique opportunity to see the region by foot - straight to Lanciano - take the right hand track as you walk up from the Casa to Castel Frentano (8km or so). I made it my duty to impart words of wisdom to my kids in a Morgan-Freeman voiceover style, while taking occasional refreshment from the frequent trackside bars - fantastic for me, as they were a captive audience!
You are very much left alone, so it's your responsibility to keep the pool clean and appropriately be-chemicaled (keep the PH up, and the chlorine right and vacuum the pool floor!) - myself and my Father had this as our daily "man chore". Do not expect a daily maid service.
Food was almost invariably excellent, although potentially pricey if you're not careful - supermarkets are not cheap, merely convenient. We derived more pleasure from using the local markets and shops and interacting with the locals over small cups of coffee (until 10am), or beer and wine (after that time).
Police (in various guises) are everywhere, so don't be tempted to drive anywhere after a good lunch (not that you would, of course)
Overall an excellent and relaxing holiday - we would not hesitate to recommend Casa Borrega - especially to an adventurous and multi age-group family....

We enjoyed our family stay and found the description accurate and the house well equipped. We went to two 'lidos' on the coast which provided sheltered, sandy beaches (shade and sunbeds about 10e a day) and also drove inland to the mountains. Some of the attractions (eg Vasto Water Park) do not open until the third week in June. We had a good meal out at Barbecue on the outskirts of Lanciano.

We wanted to escape to the Abruzzo hills from the the hustle and bustle of city life; we were not disappointed. With an amazing vista in a quiet and peaceful setting, the house provided everything we needed for a truly relaxing holiday. We were also fortunate with a week of glorious sunshine and spent our days lounging by the pool, with no need to venture too far. There was plenty to occupy the children, with the pool and the games room and then the X-Box in the evenings. Even the dog was entertained, chasing little lizards in the garden. (Chasing only, she didn't catch any!!)
In our view, an ideal family escape to truly appreciate the wonderful Italian countryside.

Fab holiday!

We visited this beautiful farmhouse with our 6 teenagers (ages 13 to 19) and had a fabulous holiday. There was lots of space for everyone and plenty to do from the games room, to the pool, to the trampoline! In fact, they were quite happy to stay put all day!! We had trouble getting them to come out!!The house is extremely well equipped and provided lots of information about the surrounding area. A car is essential and local supermarkets easy to get to. A favourite place of ours to visit was Lanciano - good shopping and eating!! All the scenery was amazing and we would really hope to return sometime!!

Happy holiday in the cosy Italian farmhouse

We had a great time in Casa Borrega in June 2010.
The scenery with it´s mountains, hills and panoramic views was unbelievable! The farmhouse was old, renovated and charming. No luxury, but all the necessary equipment. The bedrooms had air condition, which was good.
There were many activities for the children: trampoline, pool table, many kinds of board games, books, DVD, X-box and of course the swimming pool!
The area was very peaceful and quiet and so was the small town of Castel Frentano. A car is necessary and by car it is easy to get to the beaches near-by and shopping centers in Lanciano.
We cooked ourselves delicious Italian foods every night in the house.
We think the photos do not do this place justice. In reality the view is stunning and the rooms are cosy.
Our family (me, my husband and our two boys) and grandparents had the best holiday ever here in real Italian countryside.
