Beautiful Getaway

This was a real find! The condo was immaculate and we were welcomed by Hibiscus blossoms everywhere around the condo. The rental was spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen had everything you needed, coffeepot and blender too. There is satellite TV and internet at the condo. The lanai is wonderful. This particular condo has the best of both, you can sit on your deck and see the ocean and the pool, no need to choose. The nearby pub, literally a short walk next door, was wonderful, local friendly people with good foot at a reasonable price. We snorkled right off the beach in front of the condo, it is very shallow so you have to go a long a way out but WOW, we saw a huge turtle!. Rum Point beach is great, gotta go there. There is a washer and dryer at the condo too. Literally all you'll need for this trip is two swimsuits, one pair of shorts, two shirts and a sundress. Also bring lots of sunscreen and apply often as the salt water washes it off faster than just the pool. The condo also has floaties and noodles for the pool and lots of beach towels, yeah. They have a wonderful place here and you'll be glad you chose their condo. I would definitely stay here again I only hope it doesn't take another 18 years to come back. Remember when you go that everything is done on "island time" so relax, breathe, slow down, enjoy and do at least one over-the-top thing a day.
As a side note here are some things travelers should know that might be helpful before you go; sometimes its cheaper to eat out than go to the grocery store, it just depends. If you can, take one suitcase full of food, snacks mostly it will save a bunch. Talk to the locals they know where great snorkle spots are. Stingray City is a must. The Atlantis Submarine was cool. Swimming with the horses was the highlight for my daughter. Scuba diving was great too.
Car is a definite must.
Stay as long as you can and do all that you can, you'll love it here.

Perfect Week

What a glorious week in paradise. The condo was all that it was advertised as being. I have stayed on Seven Mile Beach before and much prefer the North Side now after staying here. The condo was great, could hear the ocean at night, the pool was fabulous and we went to Rum Point for water sports activities which was 5 minutes away. Both my son, his now fiance, and myself had a wonderful week. We didn't want to leave. I will definitely try and stay here when I return and my son and his fiance are definitely interested in returning to this condo and location. Laurie was great to deal with. We used McCauley's for our car at Laurie's recommendation and that was great as well. Perfect relaxining vacation!!!

This Is the Place!

The Laurelei is an excellent vacation rental. The owners have done a fine job of outfitting their lovely condo and communicating with prospective renters. The listing photos show the details very well. Our two couples had plenty of room, easy wi-fi access and good television. The pool is very nice.
You're well away from cruise ships and the bustle and traffic of George Town. A car is essential. We enjoyed our visit to Stingray Sandbar from Rum Point, but I'd guess that a tour out of George Town would be better. Our best snorkel spots were at Smith Cove and Eden Rock near town and under the pier at Morritt's on the East End (swimming with a crowd of 6-foot tarpon was a new experience!).
Yes, eating out is expensive, but we enjoyed ourselves at the Italian Kitchen (East End) and eating at sunset at the restaurant at Rum Point. Over the Edge is nearby and a good spot for lunch. We had a major windstorm for a few days during our stay, but found plenty to do on shore. The Botanic Park is highly recommended -- take the time to see and learn about the endangered blue iguanas. The historic site called Pedro St. James is worth a visit, as is the Turtle Farm with the nearby chance to "go to Hell."
All in all, a great vacation, with excellent opportunities to be active or to just lay back and relax.

We had an amazing time and your place is wonderful! Laurie: love your decor and obviously you have a lot of artistic talent. We found your place to be very comfortable and just perfect.
Among our highlights were three trips: a jet-ski Safari which included snorkeling; sail to sting ray city with snorkeling and a sunset sail. The kids loved to snorkel. We met many of your neighbors (Bob, Cindy, Julie, Nicole and I am blanking on other names). They were all lovely! We followed many of your recommendations and they were perfect. Some of our best meals were from the restaurant down the road (Over the Edge?) and we also had a fabulous (a bit pricy) meal from a restaurant next to Calypso Grill (on the bay side but at the end of seven mile beach and close to cemetery reef) the restaurant we wanted was closed and this was next door (I think it was called Harbour _______?). It was amazing and we recommend it. Hurley's was better than Foster's but Fosters was just fine for most items. We usually ate one meal out and one in and it varied from lunch to dinner. We found the condo and rum point area to be our favorite area on the island as we prefer a less crowded and touristy area. We also recommend the Botanical Gardens as we were pleasantly surprised by the floral garden and other aspects of the gardens. We really fell in love with Grand Cayman and can't wait to return. I would love to rent from you again--and for a future family trip/reunion. We found your place just incredible- very clean, comfortable and beautiful. The location is fabulous!

Our family of four just returned from The Laurelei in Grand Cayman. The condo was beautiful, very clean, and well appointed. The location was quiet and peaceful--just as promised. Rum Point and several local restaurants were close by, but not too close! McCurley's tours was an excellent recommendation. They picked us up at the airport, took us to the grocery store, and delivered us to the condo where our rental car was waiting. We highly recommend the Laurelei!

Having never been to the Grand Caymans before, or used Homeawy.com...this vacation couldn't have been easier or a better choice of condos. Laurie made everything easy and made us feel very comfortable from the first contact, and I can't stress how important this was. They are very professional in lending their home and even contacted us after arrival to check in and provide advice. The condo is well situated in the small complex and provides outstanding views, a wonderful pool and deck plus has a great lanai and deck. The condo itself it a greet size and the bedrooms are on opposite sides of the large living area. They said wireless Internet wasn't available but the North Pointe Condos did indeed provide free wireless service for us. The kitchen was large enough and there were plenty of condiments and "stuff" you might have otherwise forgotten in the cupboard. We preferred Hurley's supermarket in the Savanna area to the Fosters markets. It was more like our local Central Market. The bathrooms were big and clean and packed with tons of towels, and the lanai had huge beach towels too! The Driftwood Bar and Grill next door was convenient, but we preferred "Over the Edge" restaurant just 2 miles east. Great food at good prices and wonderful view. It was a great place for breakfast and/or lunch. Rum Point beach is a good place to hang out in a beach like setting with food and drinks served to you. They also have nice hammocks in the shade! Don't miss Ivory Point for tons of starfish, look to the left side of the point! Kaibo Grill was a good place for our two 14 year old boys to eat on the cheap and close! You HAVE to do a Stingray City Tour and I suggest Captain Dexter Fantasea Tours out of Georgetown. 8-12 people on his big boat make for a close-up, non crowded experience you will never forget. After almost a hour with the Stingrays, he took us to a great part of the reef for 45-60 minutes worth of awesome snorkeling! Other great snorkel spots are right outside the condo, Old Man Bay, Queens Marker on the Queens Highway, the pier at Rum Point ( For the resident Barracuda!), but the best was at Smith Cove just south of Seven Mile Beach. Incredible!!! We liked the Lighthouse enough to eat there twice, once for lunch and once for dinner (Bring lots of money!). Portofinos was good, Guy Harvey's was good and reasonable, Sunshine Grill had great burgers and Eats Cafe was well priced and good. The submarine was fun but underwhelming, parasailing was AWESOME!

Just wanted to drop you a quick line and comment on our vacation. To sum it up "GREAT!". Charles & Laurie have the best kept secret condo on the island! Your home in Grand Cayman is beautiful.
We had a very relaxing time at the Laurelei. The pool is perfect. When you chose this condo, you got the best of the ten available in my opinion. The weather was Caribbean normal (ie. superb!). There were clouds every morning and evening so we didn't get a chance to catch the usually gorgeous sunrise and sunset times. Maybe next time! The weather during the day was picture perfect.
I had the privilege to introduce my son (13) to scuba. What a blast. We dove together 5 times. Visibility was down from the normal 100+ feet to just 80 feet. (lol).
You can choose your own pace here. Slow and easy to action packed and hectic.. You make the choice.
Dining at a restaurant or cooking in the fully equipped kitchen, the choice is yours. Diving is close by. We used Ocean Frontiers. We've been to Grand Cayman 8 times in the past 22 years. Ocean Frontiers is the best dive experience, bar none.

We were 3 friends on a vacation reunion. It's silly, but words really can't express how wonderful our stay was. We had done Hawaii and Florida..we didn't know what to expect but just hoped everything met the standards we'd grown accustomed to. One word would describe it..BEYOND. Everything was wonderful. The beds were comfy, the kitchen, although compact, had everything we could possibly need, the lani was huge and the chairs were cushy enough to sleep in! The dining room was perfect. We even had 2 days of tropical storm "Dolly" and made the most of it. The pool was too good to be true...so warm and so very close to our back door. What I think we loved the most was Rum Point. Only minutes away and so inviting. We had the whole north side of the island to ourselves..and those wonderful land crabs! If you're thinking of going to the Caymans...I strongly suggest you consider the Laurelei as your home base. ("Home" should be so good) The price was most reasonable and if you can...stay for 2 weeks...it's the only way to really take advantage of your surroundings and this lovely tropical home. Thanks Chuck & Lori...The Laurelei has raised our standards of what to expect in a vacation rental and you afforded all of us a vacation of a lifetime, one that will never be forgotten. Another HUGE help was that packet you sent when the dates were confirmed...EVERYTHING we needed to know was in that packet..what to bring, what to wear, where to eat, where to buy groceries....what a great service that was. We'll be back....Again, thanks so much for sharing your beautiful island home....Susie from Nevada

Paradise on earth

This is the best vacation we have ever enjoyed. Total relaxation from the minute we stepped into this tropical retreat. Everything you could want or need is provided. The deck is perfect for your morning coffee, reflection and spectacular sunrises. The beach is but steps away as is the pool. Little geckos scurrying about, warm breezes fluttering the curtains, no where else like it on earth. Lori & Chuck knew what they were doing with furnishings and tasteful decor. The snorkeling on the reef is the best on the island. We even watched islanders catch red snapper. We hated to leave after our two week stay and vowed to return...but for a month next time.
