My husband and I chose the Whale House Penthouse for our 10th anniversary getaway. Having never been to San Diego before (or California for that matter) we were a little unsure of the location and if it was centrally located to all the things we wanted to do and see. I can assure you, it was! The location was perfect! Although it didn't have an ocean view, the ocean was very close by...just a short 2 minute (or less) walk. The Bay was equally as close going the other direction. We rented a car at the last minute, and I'm very glad we did. There are plenty of taxis around the area, but we wanted to go out and explore on our own. We loved going to La Jolla, Coronado Island, and Point Loma. All of these beautiful places were within 10-15 minutes driving time. We also enjoyed downtown San Diego and the Gaslamp district. On our last full day there, we ventured just a little further and went right next to the border of Mexico to the shopping outlets. That was around a 20-30 minute drive. We weren't able to cross over into Mexico since my husband has misplaced his passport, but we didn't need it. And from what I hear, you might want to stay out of that area of Mexico anyways. San Diego was absolutely gorgeous. We enjoyed everything about the Penthouse. I loved how spotless clean it was, and the bed was extremely comfortable. (I'm picky about both things when choosing a vacation rental) Cheri is a wonderful and generous person to work with when renting her place. She left a fabulous welcoming basket with food, goodies, and sparkling cider and a personalized note for us. Very thoughtful!
If there was one thing negative about the whole trip, it would be that a few of the nights we stayed there, there were some pretty loud and rowdy neighbors late at night through the early morning hours. We left the tv on in the bedroom to help drown out some of the noise. None of this was under Cheri's control however, and certainly at no fault to her. I'm guessing they were other renters enjoying a vacation of their own at nearby rental houses.
One more thing- we enjoyed the beach equipment that is provided! The boogie boards and beach towels were great.
Overall I'd give this whole experience a 5 out of 5 stars. We would LOVE to come back to San Diego sometime in the future.

This was a our first visit to San Diego and we had a great time. The house is an easy walk to the beach and the bay and just up the road from restaurants and the grocery store.The owner (Cheri) was great... very fast to respond, reached out personally, helped to accommodate our toddler. The pictures and description are accurate of the modern, bright, clean home. I would stay here again which is the highest praise I can give.

Thanks to you we had a wonderful time at Whale House. The welcome dinner and breakfast were a wonderful touch. The soup and orange juice when Glen was sick were very beyond expectations.

The Penthouse was perfect for us and a special place to entertain some of our San Diego friends as well as the guests that spent a weekend with us.

Your attention to detail is amazing.

We had so much fun walking looking at all the shops and homes and other sites! The location at the beach was great, too : ) We went on relaxing walks to the beach every day.

The Penthouse is gorgeous, immaculate, and so comfortable! We stayed so busy that the days flew by! Thank you again for the Welcoming Basket. What a nice surprise! Thank you for working with us on the schedule. How did you know 6 months ago that it was going to be sunny and in the 80’s every single day! Ha Ha! We enjoyed every minute!
