The Rose Cottage in Upper Oddington is a wonderful retreat for those seeking an authentic, peaceful setting for their holiday. My husband and I travelled via train with our 18 month old son. We were very fortunate that a long weekend booking was available as we inquired only one day in advance. Rather than emailing and potentially holding things up, the owner called us right away to provide details, confirm costs, and secure the booking. This was so helpful and we appreciated his forward thinking. The process was so smooth and easy that you would have thought we planned months in advance. The owner provided us with tremendously helpful advice on bicycle hire, grocery delivery to the cottage, taxi hire, and the baby kit available, which included a travel cot, small stool, and a few cute books (there are also board games for older children and adults). We did not take a car to the Cotswolds, instead we hired bicycles equipped with a child seat. The bicycles were delivered to the cottage within 30 minutes of our arrival, as were our groceries (note the town is so beautifully small, that there isn't a shop - only a gorgeous country pub with amazing food and equally good service). The cottage is located on a quiet turning within minutes of the Horse and Groom Pub. The cottage has a lovely location, and is very well looked after inside and out. The kind cleaner left us with a welcome pack of bread, butter and eggs freshly laid from her hens along with a welcome note. The fireplace had been freshly cleaned and was ready for use with cut logs and gorgeous smelling kindling. There were many kinds of tea (it's the little things)! Quilts for coziness, amenities for comfort, books for pleasure and for planning (miles of guidebooks for every taste), both an indoor and outdoor dining table to share meals by the fire or in the garden. Everything was so clean and comfortable, we felt at home immediately. All I could think of was "when are we coming back here?" We loved the country walks - the fresh air, the kind villagers, the delightful animals. We loved cycling (stretch after taking on the hills!). You can certainly drive and see more of the Cotswolds, but we loved living the slow life and delighted in our immediate surroundings. a refreshing mini break that we will certainly come back to again.

The Creme de la Creme!

We had three marvelous weeks at Rose Cottage and would recommend it enthusiastically to anyone. Jenny and Emmanuel have furnished it for themselves, and it is wonderfully well equipped. This is particularly so of the kitchen, which we appreciated no end because we are serious about our food.
We were made to feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Starter supplies of bread, eggs, milk and butter had been laid in by Coral, the housekeeper. Wallace Hedges, the jack-of-all-trades neighbor who looks after the property, had a rick of firewood and kindling on hand for us and a fire fully laid and ready to light on the hearth. They checked every few days to be sure all was well and made us feel wonderfully looked after.
The cottage was amply stocked with all the housekeeping necessities -- detergents, cleansers, paper goods, linens, flatware, glassware, and dishes. The bath is compact but efficiently modern (and warm!). Emmanuel and Jenny have organized a fine library (fiction and non), and a very thorough collection of guides and maps. We also enjoyed all the amenities of the wired life: phone with voicemail; stereo with an eclectic array of CDs; HDTV; high-speed wifi and (rare in a rental) a USB printer-scanner-fax.
The Peccouds are fine landlords to deal with and helpful in all respects. Emmanuel made the settling-in process quick and seamless with an amazingly thorough and thoughtful set of instructions, tips and explanations that amount to a complete “operator’s manual” for Rose Cottage’s systems and utilities. It covers everything from how to squeeze out extra hot water for the shower to the time and manner of rubbish collection.
It mattered not that England was plagued during our stay by unseasonable cold, rain and snow. Oddington is so nicely located in the Cotswolds that we could get out for adventure whenever a dry or sunny interval presented itself, yet didn't mind being tucked in by the fire in between. We managed to walk almost 100 miles of footpaths, byways and lanes and visit a few of the Cotswolds' outstanding pubs and cafes.
We also spent two cold days browsing museums, sights and shops in Oxford, only 30 minutes away thanks to frequent rail service from Kingham Station, 3 miles from the cottage.
As a grace note: The best pub we found is the Horse and Groom, right around the corner. Such were the proprietors' food and hospitality that we never needed to travel farther afield.

New Years Stay

The four of us decided to have the New Year away for a change and very fortunately found Rose Cottage. The cottage was immaculate throughout, bedrooms are of a good size and the beds extremely comfortable. With two couples and two cars there is only one small parking area but this was easily overcome by contacting the local Horse and Groom Pub who let us park there for free during our stay. Lots of lovely walks are nearby including a trip to the XI century church and also the excellent DaylesBury Farm Shop where we bumped into Alfie Boe from Les Miserables. The cottage has everything you need for a stay, the locality is excellent and people around very friendly. Highly recommended for a short term break.

I have just returned from a wonderful visit to The Cotswolds in England. We stayed for a week at Rose Cottage, in Upper Oddington, that I discovered on VRBO. The cottage, an 18th century stone cottage, is located in the heart of the Cotswolds. The cottage is surrounded by gardens and winding footpaths. We enjoyed the many comforts of the cottage and were very happy to discover that all of the ammenities of home were available to us. On our arrival, we found fresh eggs, cream, and bread for our breakfast. We decided not to rent a car, but got to easily see the area with the help of Tony Knight, from Stow On The Wold Taxi . He provided us with service to and from the airport and a day's tour of the area. We loved the garden just outside our back door and had our breakfast and relaxing time surrounded by glorious flowers. Emmanuel and Jenny, the owners, are very helpful and informative about all aspects of the cottage and the area. Wallace and Coral provided friendship and expertise on the area while we were there. Wallace's garden is a "must" to see. Coral has a shop in town where we had a fabulous facial. I would highly recommend Rose Cottage to anyone who wanted to feel like they were "really" in England. Around the corner is the pub, The Horse and Groom. We ended up eating every evening meal there and a couple of lunches. The owners, Simon and Sally, were friendly and helpful, and food was outstanding. We will miss them very much. The trip was perfect in every way. Not having a car was not a problem. I returned from this vacation rested and contented that I had been in a safe and beautiful area of the world. We can't wait to return to this lovely stone cottage.

Honestly finding it very difficult to put into words just what a wonderful time we had in Rose Cottage! Beautifully maintained with everything you could possibly need. I holidayed with my 3 children, and found the village and neighbours extremely friendly and welcoming too. A perfect retreat for a peaceful break, but also a great location to explore the Cotswalds. Thank you it was the break I desperately needed, PERFECT.

The perfect cottage

I stayed 3 weeks in Rose Cottage and hated to leave—I WILL be back. It is perfectly situated in the Cotswolds, within driving distance to everything, and yet the cottage is located in a quiet tiny village away from traffic. It is tiny, but has everything you could possibly need from fuses to corkscrews. If we needed something, we knew we'd find it in a drawer. Emmanuel has painstakingly listed and rated and priced pubs and restaurants in nearby towns for perusal, and we foundlots of books and info on area interests. The beds were very comfortable. That there was a washer dryer was a huge plus. Lovely large TV for evenings not at the pub.
All in all, a wonderful stay!

Our "home" in the Cotswolds

We stayed at Rose Cottage last year for a week, and had a wonderful time. This year, we booked for 4 weeks, from the end of April to the last week in May, and, despite the weather that, for the first 3 weeks, was far from stellar, we had an equally great time. The Cottage is very comfortable, and very well appointed - this year, the fire in particular was used a lot, as was the washing machine, which incorporates a dryer, as hanging clothes on the line was not always an option. Emmanuel provides very complete instructions regarding everything in the Cottage, and any questions or issues (we had very few) were addressed very efficiently by Wallace. The Horse and Groom, just around the corner, is a great pub, and was, once again, our “local”. Simon and Sally are very welcoming hosts, and Jason the chef’s food is as good as, most times better than anywhere else we went - and we went to many places. It is easy to get to anywhere in the Cotswolds from the cottage, and shopping at Stow is only a few minutes drive away. We are already planning our next trip to “our home in the Cotswolds”.

Wow! It does exactly what it says on the tin! This quaint cottage is brilliant. Great location and has everything you could possibly think of for a short or long term break. We choose a late Easter Break and it has turned out to be one of the best we have ever taken with our family. The cottage was welcoming and so tidy and clean with a few extra surprises, like milk, butter and eggs. So thoughful.
The local pub was again a total surprise with a warm welcome and fantastic food. Surrounding area for attractions was in easy reach and not too far as we had a grandchild with us. If ever anyone is looking for any easy to find cottage with fantastic surrounding try Rose Cottage.

We stayed for almost 9 weeks in this small, modest yet very comfortable cottage. It was exceptionally clean and very well furnished. Comfortable beds, good quality bed linens and towels. The kitchen had everything one could want to prepare meals. The washer/dryer were adequate. The owner provided an unbelievably complete list of helpful notes to prepare us for our stay; he also communicated with us when we had a minor request. The free wi-fi and telephone for calls in the UK were especially appreciated. A local man provided firewood regularly, as well as birdseed for the two feeders; we were royally entertained by the songbirds! The two local pubs (actually fine restaurants) were a real pleasure. The proximity to Stow-on-the-Wold and its supermarket and variety of fine shops was very helpful. Walking in the Cotswolds is a great pleasure, Public Footpaths available from most villages. Nearby organic farm market offers any bakery or produce item one could want - also a cafe and a day spa! There are too many fine restaurants to single out any, other than the two pubs, the Horse and Groom and also the Fox, in the village. Burford, the Slaughters, Bourton on the Water, and other Cotswold towns are an easy drive. Oxford is less than an hour away; drive to the Pear Tree Park and Ride, leave your car and pay a nominal fee to ride the shuttle bus to Oxford Center. Stratford on Avon is 30-40 minutes, also Gloucester Cathedral (fine musical offerings there). Blenheim Palace and Woodstock are also 30-40 minutes. If you enjoy watching lambs frolic, you'll love Rose Cottage!
