The Creme de la Creme!

We had three marvelous weeks at Rose Cottage and would recommend it enthusiastically to anyone. Jenny and Emmanuel have furnished it for themselves, and it is wonderfully well equipped. This is particularly so of the kitchen, which we appreciated no end because we are serious about our food.
We were made to feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Starter supplies of bread, eggs, milk and butter had been laid in by Coral, the housekeeper. Wallace Hedges, the jack-of-all-trades neighbor who looks after the property, had a rick of firewood and kindling on hand for us and a fire fully laid and ready to light on the hearth. They checked every few days to be sure all was well and made us feel wonderfully looked after.
The cottage was amply stocked with all the housekeeping necessities -- detergents, cleansers, paper goods, linens, flatware, glassware, and dishes. The bath is compact but efficiently modern (and warm!). Emmanuel and Jenny have organized a fine library (fiction and non), and a very thorough collection of guides and maps. We also enjoyed all the amenities of the wired life: phone with voicemail; stereo with an eclectic array of CDs; HDTV; high-speed wifi and (rare in a rental) a USB printer-scanner-fax.
The Peccouds are fine landlords to deal with and helpful in all respects. Emmanuel made the settling-in process quick and seamless with an amazingly thorough and thoughtful set of instructions, tips and explanations that amount to a complete “operator’s manual” for Rose Cottage’s systems and utilities. It covers everything from how to squeeze out extra hot water for the shower to the time and manner of rubbish collection.
It mattered not that England was plagued during our stay by unseasonable cold, rain and snow. Oddington is so nicely located in the Cotswolds that we could get out for adventure whenever a dry or sunny interval presented itself, yet didn't mind being tucked in by the fire in between. We managed to walk almost 100 miles of footpaths, byways and lanes and visit a few of the Cotswolds' outstanding pubs and cafes.
We also spent two cold days browsing museums, sights and shops in Oxford, only 30 minutes away thanks to frequent rail service from Kingham Station, 3 miles from the cottage.
As a grace note: The best pub we found is the Horse and Groom, right around the corner. Such were the proprietors' food and hospitality that we never needed to travel farther afield.
