This is an extraordinary house in an enchanting location overlooking the river Loire.
As it is the house which the owner, Michel, normally lives in it is furnished to an exceptionally high standard, quite unlike the majority of holiday houses, full of art and antiques and masses of chandeliers. Michel, if he is around (he moves into a converted barn when guests are staying) is very gracious and helpful. The grounds are well maintained and sitting on the terrace in the evening watching the wildlife (not to mention hot air balloons!) on the river as the sun goes down is one of the chateau's great joys. There is no swimming pool but one can swim in the river (with care, the current is very strong) and renting canoes is simple. The local town of Meung is charming and many great chateaux are a short dive away. Highly recommended!

We rented for a month the wonderful manor of Chateau de l'Eveche in St. Ay. in the Loire Valley. Our family and friends descened on us for the month and all had nothing but glowing reports to say about their stay as well as the Chateau.

The manor/chateau itself was filled with wonderful antiuques collected by the owner who gave us the full use of all its contents.

The view from the back patio overlooking the Loire , was breathtaking, the grounds of the property were truly amazing , and most evenings after a visit to all the neighbouring grand chateau of the Loire would find us sitting on the patio sipping some of the local vintage and sampling the local produce.

The manor could not have been more ideally situated. We were about one and half hours drive from all major historical attractions. Not to mention only 15 kilometres from Orleans.
We found some amazing restaurants in the town of Beaugency which was only about 10 - 15 kilometres away, again all part of the fun of vacationing in France.
I would recommend this property for anyone visiting the great Chateau of the Loire because of its central location.
The owner Michael, has truly created a wonderful home and enjoys sharing it.

" This was our third renting of L'Eveche, this wonderful inspiring small chateau with its terrace and gardens looking straight over the Loire. The autumn colours and views made marvellous subjects for us artists to paint but the real reason we keep coming back to this loved place is its interiors, with the tremendous Grand Salon with its huge dark oak fire place, warm and glowing in the autumn evening, the richness of the colours of the walls and fabrics, and the antiques and paintings.
Also the fact the owner leaves it feeling like a home and that he makes us feel so welcome.
All this is such a contrast to the usual renting places that are just furnished for letting.
Chateaude L'Eveche feels loved and we love staying there

We stayed at Michel's chateau last year - and it was one of our most memorable holidays. The place is extraordinary!
We had breakfast on the terrace every morning over looking the river Loire, and set the table with candles and crystal, linen and amazing crockery from the very well stocked cupboards.
There are a few Michelin starred restaurants close by ( 30-40min by car).
The property is very old - but it was very well maintained and Michel gave us a wonderful tour under ground thru the tunnels and passages under the chateau. He even put up an Australian flag to welcome us on our arrival!
Highly recommended!

A fabulous and atmospheric manor house, full of charm and style. It's very special! We spent a wonderful Christmas there with our (adult) children and our dog - the house is extremely spacious and comfortable; there are lots of interesting daytime rooms and the bedrooms too are fascinating and individual. So it's very easy to find quiet places and to cater for different interests and moods. It feels as if you have been given the freedom of a very precious and loved ancestral home, which is why for us it was such an unforgettable experience.

The house does not in any way have the feel of a rental property. Michel, the owner, was discreet but welcoming; his motto that "the house is for living in" was genuine and visible everywhere. So nothing appears to be locked away. There is an abundance of beautiful glasses and tableware. All the rooms are full of unusual and interesting antiques, ornaments and pictures. There is no list of things that guests must do or not do! Overall, you feel that the whole rental process is based on trust and understanding.

You would definitely need a car to take full advantage of your stay here. With this proviso, there are many places of interest within easy reach, including the magnificent chateau at Chambord and, for fans of Tintin, the chateau at Cheverny. Orleans and Meung sur Loire are a short drive away. There are plenty of local shops, supermarkets and restaurants nearby, as well as a particularly good boulangerie within walking distance.

During our visit the weather was very crisp and cold, leading to some wonderful outdoor scenery - frozen fountains in the garden and spectacular skylines against the backdrop of the adjacent River Loire. Even in winter the formal gardens were stunning and, in warmer weather, they must be a delight. For us, though, our abiding memory of the manor will be the warmth of our welcome, log fires and candlelight, and the unique character and comfort of the house.
