Great place to stay!

The house is a dream: clean interiors, uncluttered, full of little architectural surprises and quirky things (like the dainty little chandelier in the fireplace room). We enjoyed the balcony, where we ate lunch and looked at the lake and the people passing below. Gargnano is compact, has a beautiful visual texture, and the overwhelming view of the mountain across the lake. (I breathe deeply and relax just remembering it.) The town also offers an excellent array of stores and restaurants and cafes: try the hot chocolate at the little "bar" that is really a cafe that also sells international magazines; check out the hardware store (this was my favorite -- a real, old-fashioned store that has EVERYTHING -- a visual feast!); the bakery sells rolls by the gram, very cheap and sooooo crusty and good! Grocery stores for bigger shopping runs are nearby, as are open-air markets. (We bought a huge chunk of parmesan to take home.) There's an ATM in town. Occasionally one finds an open wireless network in the main street, if, like me, you're hooked on email. All in all, this was a great place to stay: quiet, beautiful, convenient. We would gladly do it again.
